Massive jam in Penang

May 30, 2006

Recently traffic jam is getting worse along the Penang Bridge. The lanes before the bridge’s toll are being reduced by 2 to accomodate the upgrading work being done. I think it is a part of the bridge widening project being carried on right now. The project is more than welcomed but unfortunately for the time being it created a bottleneck. That made those SMARTAG users’ life difficult (my brother is one of them) because it is located on the most right lane. Imagine cutting through those massive number of cars. Worse still, they are Penang drivers -_-

Today I forgot to bring my badge and my desk’s key to work. I only realized it when I was in front of my office! (too busy sleeping in the car, the jam lah :P) Without the badge is still ok, but without the key I cannot do my work today. Why? Because Dell’s employees are responsible to keep and lock up their laptops in their desks. You are allowed to bring the laptop home but who would do that? Allowing employees to bring laptop home = Supervisor’s expectation of you will work at home = No no for me. So what to do? I had to ask my brother to fetch me back home and get the key. Because of my carelessness my brother had to apply for emergency leave, sigh. Sorry man, will treat you a movie sometime later this weekend :)

Smooth traffic

I miss those days, when the traffic is smooth

So there we were at the bridge again, it was 8.20am. The jam is so bad that it has became a standstill, moving a few metres and then stop.. It took us almost 1.5 hours to reach home, thanks to the jam very much -_-” I hope the 2nd link/bridge widening can complete faster, the jam is starting to drive me nuts.. Driving to work in KL also not so bad lah!

Colourful ferries
Only if ferries go to Bayan Lepas too..

Anyway one of my buddy went to download San XI after reading my post but only to find out it was a Japanese version with Chinese patch, he was quite upset lol. Actually those selling in *ahem cough* stores are also this version. The patch did convert most of the characters except some in-game dialogues. It is still playable lah, I don’t have any problems with it so far. If the patch works perfectly it would certainly add a lot of fun in the game. See what the officers talk also quite nice, especially in meetings.

The game so far has been good, I find it the most challenging version of San series. The AI is good and strong, a nuisance at times. Their attacks are non-stop, led by only the best officers. My campaign has been on going for 70 years now, there are only 3 rulers left: Yuan Shao, Liu Bei and Lu Bu (me) Liu Bei is the strongest now, sien. I have to ally with Yuan Shao to stop him -_- I have executed Guan Yu and Zhao Yun *sob* but he still doesn’t want to give up in attacking me.. Maybe tonight I will start another campaign fresh, playing as both Cao Cao and Lu Bu :D
Oh ya, did anyone catch the news about Malaysia bringing Disneyland to Johore? Read it here. Well well, now I may have a reason to visit Johore already if the plan does commence ;)

Life as an Application Developer @ Dell..

May 17, 2006

Sad. That’s the perfect word to describe my current situation @ Dell. When I first accepted this job, I was expecting to do ASP.net and write stored procedures. But now I end up doing support, dealing with ADAM issues those China users are facing.

It is very frustrating, issues reported are always short and unclear which make you guessing and think “what the hell is happening? and what the hell do you want me to do?!?” Whenever a new issue is received, I have absolute no idea what to do, not even where to start! Let me show you some issues they have reported..

50. Sales Remarks should be listed on the top of the download processing page, not combined with previous history in the bottom of the page.
51. Pls put the Approval History of Download processing page to the top and the bank in info at the bottom. As History is the one DL must check while bank in info is not.
57. Can’t approve order, BID: 92618, Total rev must be more than 79.9%

OMFG, what is “Total rev”? What “Approval History”? Which “Sales Remark”?? As far as I know, there are almost one Sales Remark to be entered in every page of Sales module! And this person who reported the issue does not reply to my emails, and the supervisor is asking me to solve them by today! Wah lao eh, how wor?

I want to go back to coding!!!

Dell badge

May 9, 2006

Got my Dell badge finally earlier today :D

Badging is used to mark attendance, accessing the building and to purchase food at the bakery or cafeteria. All Dell employees, no matter vendors’ or not, are entitle to RM32.50 food allowance a month. Not much, but better than nothing.

APCC = Asia Pacific Call Centre? Not so sure.. :P

Dell sponsored japanese buffet @ City Bayview Hotel

May 5, 2006

Thank you Dell for the buffet dinner :) I am not a fan of Japanese cuisine, but luckily it also served some cakes and desserts, so I quite enjoyed it too. The buffet cost a whopping RM72 per head, more expensive than the famous Saisaki Japanese Buffet in KL. Must be due to its location in the hotel.. it served less choices too.

Anyway this is a really nice because I just joined Dell as vendor staff just for 4 days and I get invited for their company dinner. At first I decided not to go because I’d have trouble getting home(I car pool with my brother now) but luckily my colleague Yee Ting(also my sister’s friend) was willing to give me a ride home :) Moreover she gave convinced me to for it as this is an excellent to know my colleagues better and the food will be the best among all Dell’s dinner.

The quarter end dinner was held in many different hotels, Yee Ting’s department was invited for a Chinese course dinner, in which roast suckling pig, seafood and “Buddha Jump Over Wall” were among the courses.. omg. Looking forward to more activities and glad to be part of it :)
