Since the nameless dim sum restaurant we wanted to eat at Jinjang was closed, we went to this this roast duck stall called Ah Yat which is just across the street. There are other alternatives in the area like Bak Kut Teh, Pan Mee and mamak food but we were more in the mood for some succulent looking roast duck.
A set for two that comes with a quarter roast duck (bottom portion) cost RM16 and you get free soup and Chinese tea. I think the price is reasonable enough for a no-frills meal.
While far from the best, Ah Yat’s roast duck is still decent enough to make the cut. It has a whiff of Chinese herbs and the meat is tender and juicy without being rubbery at all. That being said, if you ONLY eat roast duck that has VERY crispy skin, you might want to give this one a miss because the crispness is not very great.
But who dictates that roast duck MUST have crispy skin in order to be tasty anyway? Take Onn Kee from Kepong for example, their roast duck is crispy alright but the meat is also dry as hell. I have always disliked eating there and I never understood its popularity.
