During our recent trip to Ipoh, we noticed a quaint sandwich restaurant called Sandwich Express near the hotel we stayed. Since sandwich is one of our favorite food, we decided to forfeit our hotel’s breakfast and eat here instead.
First impression: choices are aplenty and most of their sandwiches are priced under RM10. The ordering system is similar to Subway’s; you choose your bread, main ingredient, add ons and sauces. If you are wondering, they are halal certified too!

The breads available include croissant, charcoal, original, wholemeal and round muffin. SL had the S.E.S (Sandwich Express Special) @ RM11.99 with her favorite croissant, while I had the Club Sandwich @ RM12.99 with charcoal bread. FYI, both the croissant and charcoal bread are considered premium breads so they cost an additional RM1.
While picking the sauces (16 of them!) for our sandwiches, one stuck out because of the name “Real Mayonnaise”. That suggests their mayonnaise is home made, but after clarifying with the manager on duty, it’s actually Lady’s Choice Real Mayonnaise.
Mayonnaise is a must for me in any sandwich or burger, so I picked it along with honey mustard and roasted sesame sauce. Also, alhough they recommend that you only pick a maximum of 3 sauces for your sandwich, you can still ask for more and there will be no additional charge.
Taste wise, both sandwiches were great and the high quality sauces really made the difference. The rich consistency of the mayonnaise holds the ingredients together and adds a sweet and savory punch of flavor.

My nephew had the Set B from the Kids Meal menu which includes a junior cheese chicken sandwich, chicken nuggets, iced lemon tea and ice cream @ RM8.90. For the price, I think the value is great. Like his uncle, he also loved dipping the nuggets into mayonnaise.

As a way to set themselves apart, Sandwich Express offers free delivery to customers’ doorstep. No minimum purchase is required as long as the area is within Ipoh town. For outskirts of Ipoh, a minimum purchase of RM30 or RM50 may be required, but do call them for enquiries.
Lastly, from what I was told, Sandwich Express is opening a few outlets in KL soon, locations include KLCC and Nu Sentral.
