The Dark Gallery Boutique Chocolate Cafe @ MyTOWN Shopping Centre

The Dark Gallery takes chocolate seriously and takes pride in producing their own chocolate desserts. Dark chocolate, scientifically backed for its various health benefits is the focus here at this new boutique-and-cafe concept.
At The Dark Gallery, you can expect to find plenty of artisan dark chocolate desserts such as ice cream, tarts, macarons, cookies and hot and iced beverages. They are all affordably priced so you can count on great value and a more importantly, a great time. After all, it’s impossible to be sad while eating chocolate.

The Single Origin Dark Chocolate Ice Cream Platter @ RM21 is specially curated for exploring single origin chocolate and to appreciate their unique flavor profile. It features three scoops of ice cream, each with minimal sugar and varying cacao content. The selection will change periodically so there’s always a reason to return to try something new.

FYI, you should be savoring the ice creams from left to right according to the percentage. The 64% Madagascan is light and fruity, 70% Dominican Republic has a floral and spicy note while the 72% Venezuelan is intensely bittersweet. While all of them share the same dense and rich quality, I preferred the 64% Madagascan the most.

For those looking for a simple and straightforward after-meal dessert, single scoop ice cream (with one topping) can be purchased at RM10 each. These premium ice creams, available in a total of 12 chocolate and non-chocolate flavors are made on site from scratch in small batches to ensure freshness.

The Single Origin Chocolate Pastries Platter @ RM21 is another tasting platter but it’s geared towards those with a sweet tooth. Currently, the platter consists of two 64% Madagascan chocolate macarons, a tartlet filled with 66% Ecuador dark chocolate ganache, a homemade s’more of molten 70% Dominican Republic dark chocolate on a torched marshmallow and graham cracker, and a mini trifle of 72% Venezuelan dark chocolate mousse, caramelised bananas, brownie chunks and whipped cream.

The Chocolate Rhapsody @ RM28 is one of the signature desserts at The Dark Gallery and probably the most popular one – for good reason. Instagram-worthy presentation aside, you get to savor three kinds of chocolate ice cream (dark, milk & white) which are served in humongous scoops. Then there are the crunchy chocolate ‘soil’, crispy chocolate meringue and cacao tuile accompanied by silky chocolate mousse for extra texture.

Now this Frozen S’mores @ RM15 would be the perfect treat for a hot day. It’s filled with 80% dark chocolate ice cream coated with graham cracker crumbs and homemade marshmallow, making for a decadent and sweet combination. The s’more is torched right in front of you too so it’s cool to watch.

If you are in need of a caffeine kick, then the Chocolate Affogato will surely do the trick. The price is surprisingly competitive @ RM14 considering most cafes in the city offer something similar, yet pricier. Not to mention this is served with high quality 80% dark chocolate ice cream and homemade caramelised almonds.

I would also highly recommend their Hot Chocolate @ RM15, prepared using a melted mixture of pure Valrhona dark chocolate couvertures and frothed fresh milk then topped with shavings of dark chocolate. The chocolate flavor is amazingly rich and every sip is a bliss. Like the ice cream, the hot chocolate is also available in a platter of three shots.

The Dark Gallery also lets you purchase your favorite desserts to bring home for personal enjoyment, party favours or as gift boxes. There are too many to list but some of the items include Bean to Bar Craft Chocolate (45g, RM18), Ice Cream Pints (450g, RM33), Artisanl Chocolate Sable (160g, RM20) and Artisanal Chocolate Granola (240g, RM20).
