The Patong beach area is a tourist hub by purpose, so authentic local Thai food is pretty hard to come by. Even the locals would shake their heads when you ask them for recommendations.
Among all the touristy restaurants along Prabaramee Road, the No.6 Restaurant could be the busiest of them all (another equally famous one is the No. 9 restaurant) and a queue forms outside the small establishment at night. This is a rare sight in Phuket and it’s a testament to the popularity of this restaurant, which owes much to the many great reviews on TripAdvisor.
Special Fried Yellow Noodle – decent at best, a long shot from the best one we had in Bali.
Tom Kha Talay (Coconut seafood soup) – this was the best dish of the meal. The seafood given includes prawn, crab, squid and fish and all of them infused the milky soup with a fresh and sweet flavor.
Stir Fried Chicken with Cashew Nut – tastes as expected with no surprises.
Garlic and Pepper Prawns – recommended by the staff, which I instantly regretted ordering after one bite. Despite the freshness of the prawns, the garlic taste was just too overwhelming to be enjoyable. In hindsight I should’ve stuck to my original order and gotten the prawns steamed instead.
100% pure fruit juice without additional sugar and water is a thing in Thailand – you just gotta give it a try.
If you ask my opinion from a Malaysian to another, honestly I think the food here is overrated and hyped up by the non-Asian tourists. Not to say the food is bad, but definitely not as great as it appears to be described. If you are looking for a quick, no frills brunch then No.6 restaurant is actually a good choice. But if taste is your main concern, I’d say look elsewhere because better Thai food can be had in KL anytime.
No. 6 Restaurant69 Soi Prabaramee 3, Prabaramee Road,
Patong, Phuket
Last time I went a restaurant called Panoi Seafood, nearby Jungceylon there, I feel their food might taste better than this (ya, heard that a bit overrated by the tripadvisor and so on)
that santan seafood soup does really look very good.
If you’re ever in the Phuket/Patong area, give Kaab Gluay a visit. Its a Thai food place.
Service good. Food excellent. Price reasonable.
