On my last trip to KL my makan buddies brought me to one of the popular places to have supper in Klang Valley – Sungai Besi Wan Tan Mee (全蛋面). The stall opens from late evening onwards to midnight 3-4am or until finish, whichever comes first. Knowing where the stall is at is one thing but getting there, that’s totally different. For me if didn’t have the help of a GPS I doubt I would be able to find this elusive stall.
The main reason for them to open at night is due to the fact that during the day time a car mechanic shop operates at the shoplot that it occupies. The business hour is odd alright but I felt it also attributed to their success so far. Because it proved to be a favorite joint for late night clubbers and night shift workers. And of course, the Wan Tan Mee has to be good and able to stand out from the rest too.
And for that, Sungai Besi Wan Tan Mee has a variety of toppings to choose from like Wild Boar Curry (pic), Char Siew, Wan Tan, Sui Kow, Ginger Duck, Sweet and Sour Pig Leg and Hakka Stew Pork. Wild Boar Curry and Sweet and Sour Pig Leg are the two of the more unique ones among the list, as chicken curry and braised pork ribs are usually used instead.
I liked the Wild Boar Curry a lot, it was meaty yet tender and tasted really good. The spicy and fragrant curry gravy blended into the noodles well too. While the Wan Tan Mee was pretty good on itself, it was the addition of those extra ‘liao’ that helped to make the grade.

Here, the boss is local but food is prepared by foreign workers. Not that I have anything against them, but just so you know.
Sungai Besi Wan Tan Mee is recommended for their Char Siew and Wild Boar Curry alone. The rest are good nonetheless but just didn’t impress as much. Each plate costs around RM4-6 depending on the portion ordered. A must-try for those late night eaters.Wan Tan Mee Sg. Besi
