When it comes to Tonkatsu, you don’t really have a lot of choices in KL. So I definitely welcome the opening of Tonkatsu Anzu at Isetan The Japan Store’s premium dining floor – The Table.
Like any respectable restaurant that serves good Japanese pork cutlet, Anzu uses only premium imported black pork, aged to achieve perfect flavor and tenderness.
Anzu’s menu features both deep fried pork and seafood, but there’s no reason to skip the pork here. Their pork cutlets are marinated for 7 days and the limited Katsu sets (priced between RM48 to RM55) are prepared with Gin-Jo-Pork. If you are wondering what that is, it’s simply pork handpicked by the Chief Chef himself. So you can be assured of the quality.
The pork fillet was delicate, mostly lean layered with just the right amount of fat to make it succulent. The moment you bite into it you know it’s something special.
For a juicier bite, you can’t go wrong with the pork loin cutlet.
Anzu’s homemade Tonkatsu sauce is not as sweet as the others’ and just a dip of mustard (a must) is more than enough to supplement the already great tasting pork cutlets. Overall our tasting experience was a better-than-expected and we will definitely return to try more dishes.
