At this time of writing, Volcano Shabu Shabu is the only steamboat option available in Cyberjaya, and a halal one too. So there’s no wonder why they’re one of the busiest restaurants in Shaftsbury Square. We always come here when we feel like having a long, satisfying and relaxing lunch.
There are three types of soups: chicken, tomyam and vegetarian. As with any steamboat, the soup’s flavor only starts to really come through towards the end of the meal after being boiled with various meats and vegetables.
Each person gets his/her own pot since it’s shabu shabu and there are plenty of sauces to choose from the self-service sauce bar. You could mix and match your own sauces to fit your taste, so get creative! But despite the choices available none seemed to hit the spot for me.
The food here is reasonably priced and the quality is not bad either. The vegetables and processed food stuff taste exactly as expected but the meats were delicious, as they were thinly sliced for that tender bite.
Compared to the vast options I have in Kepong (which is practically a steamboat town) the individual sets starting from RM18.90 might seem a little pricey. However, if you take into consideration that you’re eating at Cyberjaya, the price is actually quite justified. And not to mention the dining environment is really clean and comfortable and the service is good too.
Among the many side dishes that we ordered, the prawn balls @ RM6.90 is tender, bouncy and sweet – definitely one dish you should not miss. We never miss ordering this dish whenever we have our meals here.
In all fairness, whether it’s shabu shabu or steamboat, without pork the experience just feels lacking. I’d usually skip any halal steamboat but if it’s for a gathering where strict food requirement is a criterion, don’t discount Volcano out of the consideration.
Volcano Shabu Shabu’s second outlet was opened in September last year and it offers eat-all-you-can steamboat buffet during lunch and dinner hours. Their pricing is very reasonable and attractive for nearby office workers which explains their popularity!
