Location is the best thing about French Hotel.
This newly-refurbished boutique hotel is situated right smack in the center of Ipoh town and you could get to most places of interests (food wise) on foot. It costs about RM125 for a windowless, superior king room per night and I think it’s fair as long as you know what you’re getting.
The room is spacious enough just to accommodate the two of us, any smaller it’d be slightly uncomfortable. It includes the basic amenities, some which are essential to kill time such as the 32″ LCD TV with 5 Astro channels and complimentary Wifi. Breakfast is optional and you could choose either a Western or local set from the menu. We did not bother ordering any because we’re in Ipoh and there are plenty of places to eat!
The only thing I am extremely unhappy about the room is the lack of soundproofing, or it was due to the doors and walls are too thin. Being able to hear whatever that is happening in the corridor such as conversations and people opening and closing their room doors is frustrating. It is especially annoying when you’re trying to sleep.
My case was quite bad as there was a large family in two different rooms and you could hear the excited children running back and forth both and worse still – screaming. And all of this happened in the midnight hours. I know this makes me sound like a grumpy uncle but I was this close to snapping and yelling at them to shut up.
No complaints about the shower’s water pressure but the supply of hot water seems to be quite limited. When we tried to shower after checking in the water was only lukewarm. It was functioning well on the next early morning though.
A rather fancy cafe by the name of Jose & Deli operates within the hotel and caters to outsiders as well.
There are many parking spots available (provided by Majlis Perbandaran Ipoh) around the hotel but we were advised to park our cars at a private parking lot nearby. Since the hotel reimburses the parking fees and there is someone stationed there 24 hours to keep a watch on things, why not?
Likes: Affordably priced and clean rooms, central and convenient location
Dislikes: Bad soundproofing, erratic water heater
