Recently, we went to Melaka for a short makan trip. Our trip was just a 2 days trip and so, we decided to book a hotel for a night. After searching for the best hotel deals on HotelsCombined, eventually we settled for Kapitan Kongsi Hotel. It had great reviews, felt unique and fit our budget perfectly.
Kapitan Kongsi Hotel is sort of like a boutique hotel with a modern built architecture inspired from the late “Straits” Eclectic style between 1910’s and 1940’s. It is strategically located in Taman Kota Laksamana Jaya which is a relatively new commercial area.
Most of the shops were still vacant but that did not stop people from coming here. This charming hotel is beautifully decorated with furniture, knick knacks and posters from the 1970’s to 1990’s.
Since facilities like swimming pool and gym were not a high priority for us during this trip, our focus was on the comfort of the room. And we couldn’t be more pleased with our stay at Kapitan Kongsi Hotel’s Twin Superior Room. Strong wifi connection is provided throughout the hotel and the speed was more than respectable.
The water pressure in the bathroom (spotless) was strong which made a hot shower at the end of the day such a relaxing experience. Basically, our room was equipped with everything we need. Comfortable beds, toiletries, coffee and tea and flat screen TV with some of the latest movies.
The hotel also has its own restaurant and bar where you are able to enjoy some Nyonya and other local dishes. There are a variety of breakfast options to choose from in the morning.
From Fridays to Sundays, a night and flea market can be found right in front of the hotel. Street food, toys and various collectibles are some of the hottest items you could buy. Other photos of the hotel and its surroundings can be viewed in the following gallery:
Overall, we were quite pleased with our stay here. And when you consider the fact that we only paid RM125 for this room, you can totally forget about booking with Airbnb, like seriously.
Lastly, for those who prefer to eat at shopping malls and restaurants, there are plenty of them just further down the road leading to the town. Both Mahkota Parade and Dataran Pahlawan are reachable within 10 minutes by car.
