Until I am able to find a tastier Pad Thai in Kepong, the one served by Thai Taste stall in Kepong Food Court shall be my favorite. We thought Senthai & Mookata‘s version was good enough, but as the Chinese saying goes “一山还比一山高” – there’s always someone better.
Priced at RM8 a plate, the Pad Thai is worth every cent. To begin with, they are not stingy with the toppings as I counted seven prawns in total. That’s almost triple of what you usually get at other places.
Although the flavor has been slightly tweaked (sourness toned down) to suit our palate, overall it’s still authentic and comparable to what we had in Bangkok. It was expertly fried with great ‘wok hei’ too.
Thai Taste’s menu also offers many single rice dishes and salads with prices ranging between RM6 and RM10. We tried the popular Thai staple Pad krapow moo (Fried Minced Pork Stir with Basil and rice) @ RM9 and it totally delivered in all aspects. Simple yet delicious, even the fried egg was done right with crispy edges. It’s the little details that matter.
Lastly, we also had the Fried Chicken with Cashew @ RM10 and the portion is large enough to share. The savory sauce was excellent and makes a perfect accompaniment with rice – one that keeps you digging for it. It comes with a good amount of greens as well so it’s quite a wholesome dish by itself.
For a satisfying Thai meal that won’t put a dent in your wallet, Thai Taste should be on your list of places to check out. The discovery of this unassuming food stall proves that we need to look beyond restaurants for good food, especially with this economy we are stuck in at the moment.
