Kim Lian Kee has passed its prime and those days when they were the "to go to" restaurant for Hokkien Mee are long gone. Now, it's a tourist trap filled with foreign workers and poor souls who are completely clueless about how a decent Hokkien Mee should taste like.
Visitors to Petaling Street, locals and tourists alike will be tempted to cool off with a cup of the famous 'air mata kucing'. Kim Soya Bean is another equally popular drinks stall in the area selling soya bean milk and Tau Fu Fah. Started as a family business about half a century ago, the stall is now run by the second generation.
Madras Lane is popular for two things - curry laksa and yong tau fu. But there are three noodle stalls in this small hawker centre. Peculiarly enough, all of them have pretty much the same menu and that includes curry laksa. So, which one should you go for?
Amongst the sights and sounds of the bustling Petaling Street, one food vendor catches your attention with loudspeaker. The repeated chants of "Yat Lau, Yat Lau! Wat Luet Luet" (first class, slippery smooth) from Madam Tang's muah chee stall fill the air and you can't help but to check it out.
Koon Kee is one of the famous places to eat in Petaling Street. I am not a KL local but from what I researched, it's said to serve one of the best wantan mee in the city. That might be true a few decades ago and I wouldn't want to argue with that claim. However, in my opinion, Koon Kee's wantan mee is absolutely horrid and not worth your time and money at all.
