Al-Hambra Tandoori Palace is a restaurant serving cheap and tasty Northern [tag]Indian cuisine[/tag]. The restaurant was firstly opened in Sungai Petani and has expanded into [tag]Penang[/tag]. The main branch in Penang would be along Nagore Street, while the latest branch to open is located just minutes away from my working place in Taman Sri Tunas, Bayan Baru. It’s only 3-4 shops away from Victoria Station.
Lai Xiang Bak Kut Teh

It has been really long since the last time I had [tag]Bak Kut Teh[/tag] since returning to [tag]Penang[/tag]. The BKT here simply cannot match KL and Klang’s BKT. I think because I have already tasted a really good BKT, normal ones don’t attract me anymore. But recently a friend recommended me to try a BKT stall in BB food court just behind Sunshine Square Bayan Baru.
Lai Xiang Bak Kut Teh only opens at night and seats are quite limited. The day I went, it was drizzling and we were confined to sit along the shops’ corridor. Business was very brisk, customers were arriving non-stop. We ordered a person’s serving and a bowl of pork meat balls. Unfortunately for us, yiu char kueh was already finished by the other lucky customers..
I have no idea if the pork meat balls are made by themselves or bought from the market. They were really nice, sweet and tender. About the soup, it was thick and tasted heavily of Chinese herbs. This is different from Klang’s stlye which has a lighter taste.
Yau Choy was also on our meal, tasted good because of the meat floss. Really a lot, don’t you think? A meal for 2 like this costed around RM14-16, depending on the drinks ordered. Quite reasonable and I look forward to eat here again, my friend’s recommendation is good ![]()
Tomyam Noodles

For those working in [tag]Bayan Lepas[/tag], you should be familiar with the food court I am going to blog about. It is located beside Bayan Baru’s [tag]Sunshine Square[/tag] supermarket and connected to the market. This huge food court has so many stalls that the number exceeds 100. However I am not sure whether there’s really more than 100 of stalls within it, didn’t went to count
Moreover, only like 70% of the stalls are usually open. Pardon the images’ quality, they are taken using my camera phone
Stall no. 99 by the name ‘Lai Hoe’ sells quite good [tag]tomyam[/tag] noodles. What distinguishes it from the others is that its noodles are cooked upon order. There are three ingredients selection for tomyam noodles: prawn (RM6.00), fish (RM4.00) or pork balls (RM3.00) You can also mix the ingredients if you wish. For example the one I had shown here is actually a fish tomyam maggi with pork balls added, it costs RM4.50. Be warned though, the tomyam soup is very very spicy.
To overcome the spiciness, ice blended red bean drink @ RM1.00 is a good choice ![]()
Smell Tasty Restaurant

“Smell Tasty” Restaurant is located in Sunway Tunas, a relatively new area in Bayan Baru. Most people working in Bayan Lepas and Motorola nearby like to patronize here for lunch, so business is always brisk.
Cheezy Chicken Fried Rice @ RM6.50 is fried rice and a piece of chicken chop with cheese melted on top of it. The fried rice was too little for guys like me, but they were generous on the chicken
Fried Mee Jawa @ RM5.00 is Chinese style Indian mee goreng. The portion is huge, smells great and is one of the best Fried Mee Jawa I ever had. So good that it can match the mee goreng back in Bukit Mertajam.. but I have to say it is a bit pricey though.
