Floating Seafood Paradise Restaurant @ Bukit Tambun
Oct 9th
I am continuing to explore the seafood restaurants in Bukit Tambun and Floating – Seafood Paradise restaurant was my stop this time. It is one of the largest seafood restaurant in Bukit Tambun and located quite hidden from the road.
If you are driving a little too fast you might miss the turning as the sign board is not that big. As the name implies, the floating restaurant is the main attraction other than the food.
We saw the frog legs were exceptionally meaty compared to other restaurants so we just had to order it. It’s not easy to find seafood restaurants that have meaty frog legs nowadays, skinny ones are just no no for me.
The best way to cook frog legs to me is none other than using dried chilis (kung pao stlye) because they will rid of the unwanted smell. Some people perceive frog legs as exotic food but not for me. I have been eating them since young and have always been a fan of frog legs.
The dish was not as spicy as I expected and turned out to be a little sweet instead. Cost RM15 for about 4-5 frogs.
Tiger fish 虎鱼, a quite unknown species to most has one of the most delicate and sweet flesh. They are grey colored and can be easily recognized from their big, bulky head.
A full grown tiger fish typically costs RM6-8 depending on its size.
Steaming is definitely the best way to cook them to ensure they taste the freshest. Also, unlike other fish they are usually skinned before being cooked. We had two, costing RM14.

Mantis Shrimp Village Seafood Restaurant @ Bukit Tambun (Revisit)
Sep 11th
After getting a fair amount of bad comments on Mantis Prawn Village Seafood Restaurant in Bukit Tambun from the service to food to cleanliness, I decided to visit it again to find out if the comments were true.
One particular comment that made me LOL was that I was paid by Mantis Shrimp Village to write only good review for them, haha! I kept asking myself “Mantis Shrimp Village became so bad already? Why so different from the last time I went?”
First things first, I am not defending the restaurant but merely expressing my very own experience. Lets start with their signature dish – Carlsberg Mantis Shrimp. In my opinion this is a must try if you ever come to Mantis Prawn Village. If you are willing to pay, you can choose the biggest mantis shrimp they have to prepare this delicious dish.
Why? Because mantis shrimps already do not have a lot of meat.. and the meat will shrink a little after being deep fried. I always order this dish and it never disappoints with its sweetness and freshness.
makan said: I went there foo lunch also, so it’s open for lunch and dinner together. The calrsberg shrimp not bad, i like it…yummy…but too bad i don’t have photo.
Well, I have the photo now
For fish, do try their special Baba Steam style – a bit sourish and spicy. The gravy is nice to eat along with rice, very appetizing.
Claypot Japanese Taufu. Nothing special about this dish.
Stir fry Abalone Mushroom with Broccoli. This dish rocks! Abolone mushrooms’ texture is really a bit similar to the real abalone.
The Salted Egg Crab was a failure as we should have opted for meat crab instead of flower crab. It was our own mistake, flower crabs are only good for sweet and sour or curries.
As usual, our drink would be a jug of dragon fruit juice. Based on this meal, I can say that most bad comments were unjustified. So unjustified I am starting to wonder if the comments were left by competing seafood restaurants nearby, lol.
And because I already knew about the bad experiences other people had before, I paid extra attention to certain details especially the service and cleanliness. Now, for the bad comments (my response in bold):
disappointed Man said: Firstly, the restaurant service. The person who served us is the captain of the restaurant. It was our first visit to this restaurnt. I would like the captain to introduce some famous dishes of the restaurant. She did but in a very rude manner. She was looking down on us. (Maybe because we are driving a non-branded car and only put on casual wear) She was not willing to introduce us about the dishes. She asked us just order whatever we want to eat. When we ask how is the taste of the dish, eg sweet, sour or spicy. Again, she answered us in a rude way. Some more, the way she serve us make us feel that she is forced to serve us. This makes us not comfortable to have food there.
We were also driving a non-branded car, also casual wear t-shirt and short pants some more lol. I didn’t notice anything rude about the captain.. she answered everything we asked just like a normal person would.
disappointed Man said: The most famous seafood of the restaurant – mantis, it is tasteless!! We ordered medium size mantis but we were eating small size mantis. For other seafood, they are acceptable (from the aspect of taste) but not fresh.
I believe the mantis shrimps are openly displayed in the aquarium tanks within the restaurant, and you can clearly see their sizes before ordering. Even the price for each mantis shrimp is very clearly stated. Having to know all these before you placed the order, I don’t understand the complaint.
disappointed Man said: Thirdly, about the price. Dear all going-to-visit consumers, this is a kindly remind to you. Please make sure you have credit cards. If you are paying cash, please make sure you bring more. Mantis Shrimp Village Seafood charging is extremely expensive!!!! If you try to compare their price with other seafood restaurants, you will find that this restaurant is charging at medium size price (in fact, they served us with small size dishes). Furthermore, if you compare taste + service Vs price to other restaurants, it is not worth to visit at all.
I don’t know about you, but Mantis Shrimp Village’s prices have been fair for me. If you looked back my previous post, my meal cost a little more than RM110 including beer! Try ordering the same food in other restaurants, I am sure it’d cost much much more.
pipi said: salted egg yolk crabs = for those fans of salted egg yolk crabs, you would be disappointed, that was too less salted egg yolk but too much sugar added.
Yes I do agree their salted egg yolk crabs is not a good choice already.
pipi said: calrlsberg prawns = tasteless, couldnt tell what was that tasted like.
They taste sweet and fresh
Seriously, they are not tasteless!
Quan said: NO! NO! NO!
THis restau serves good Salted egg yolk crabs, but NO!! no!!! and NO!! THIS RESTAU IS SUPER DUPER DIRTY!!!! Full with FLIES!! and the waitress are SUPER RUDE!!! cannot tahan with them, must boycott!!!!
This comment is certainly a whole load of bull****. The restaurant is one of the cleanest you would find in Bukit Tambun. During my entire meal, I didn’t even notice a single fly!
After receiving so many bad comments I won’t recommend anyone to go to Mantis Shrimp Village anymore. Honestly, I don’t dare. But I would still continue to patronize them because my dining experiences with them so far have been positive!

Mantis Shrimp Village Seafood Restaurant @ Bukit Tambun
Jan 30th
Mantis Shrimp Village is a newer seafood restaurant to open in Bukit Tambun. It is located just beside the toll plaza exiting Bukit Tambun to Juru and one of the first few restaurants you would see. This big restaurant has a sign board so huge you just wouldn’t miss it. Anyway I have heard people say that the deeper you go into Bukit Tambun, the more expensive the seafood would be. This post will prove that statement wrong!

Prawn Village Excellent Seafood @ Bukit Tambun
Nov 28th
First of all, let me say this is going to be a very long post. Not because I am going to crap lol, simply because there are more than 20 photos to be included
So last weekend I treated my family for a seafood dinner in Bukit Tambun. We decided to dine in Prawn Village because of its large variety of seafood and cleanliness. This was actually my second time there. The first time I came I was just a small kid. All I remembered was the stair case down to the restaurant.
Parking in Bukit Tambun is quite scary, the roads are small and most people double park. Each car is charged RM2 for parking here.. kinda costy huh? But for the seafood.. don’t care la lol. There are a lot of monkeys playing around and walking on wires. Not scared to get electrocuted one.
If you are unlucky you may have one of them landing on your vehicle. Just pray they don’t scratch your car or poop on it lol.
It’s not hard to find Prawn Village. Just keep driving towards the jetty and look for the sign board.
And this is the stair case mentioned earlier to enter the restaurant. It looks small but you will be surprised
Aquariums containing different types of fish greet you at the entrance. Prawn Village has almost twice the seafood offered by other restaurants nearby. No kidding!
What’s better than ordering off the menu? Being able to look at the real dish first. I like this photo, it gives a false perception that the dish labels are photoshopped in it.
I finally know what these clams are. Previously I call them ‘than’ in Hokkien. In English, they are called JackKnife Clam. Do correct me if I am wrong, they look the same in Wikipedia to me. On the right is a ‘Hor Hu’ which translates to Tiger Fish. I got a shock when I googled up ‘Tiger Fish’.. the fish sure looks mean lol.
Not sure what this seafood is. They are usually steamed and taken with Thai chilli sauce. Maybe a close relative of Balitong?
Live oysters and scallops.
Poor crabs being tied up. These crabs are from the river hence their shells are dirtier than those flower crabs, which originate from the sea.
Lai Liu Ha, prawn mantis. Look at their size!
A big garoupa swimming among flower crabs. Poor fish.. one of its eyes is severed.
And more seafood! Those bawal putih (pomfrets) are big for sure.
One of the counters in Prawn Village. Have your drink made here
An overview of the Prawn Village’s dining area. It sure is clean for a seafood restaurant, especially in Bukit Tambun. The one next door.. OMG king-sized flies flying around. Totally no mood to eat seeing that.
Most seafood restaurants here have a nice view of the river and boats passing by. It doesn’t smell so don’t worry.
It’s near Christmas, and Prawn Village had the ceilings nicely decorated. There’s even a medium sized Christmas tree in the center of the restaurant.
Enough virtual touring the restaurant lol. This was the first dish to arrive, ‘Sam Gu Sai Lan Choy’ @ RM14. Three types of mushroom cooked with brocolli flower. The dish’s name gave me and my brother a good laugh. ‘Sam Gu’ lol.
Fried Tong Fun tasted good and very well worth its price @ RM3 only. The prawns are big and very fresh.
You must try the satay in Bukit Tambun. Kinda difficult to find satay that has this much meat (and fatless) now. They are only RM0.60 per stick.
Fresh scallops cooked in curry powder @ RM2.50 per piece.
Kam Heong Jackknife Clams @ RM9. Super nice, too bad the clams are little.
Fried osyters on sizzling plate @ RM12.
Steamed Tiger Fish @ RM8 per piece. Despite the ugly looks, their meat sure is sweet and tender.
Surprisingly this is the most expensive dish of our meal. At RM18, it has 3 types of spring rolls accompanied with 3 different sauces to dip in. Nothing spectacular about the dish except the Prawn Village Bean curd (top left). Our dinner totaled up to RM102 including drinks. Considered reasonable because we didn’t order any prawns or crabs. Anyway, do you know that Prawn Village is a ![]()

Seafood @ Bukit Tambun
Jul 25th
Needless to say, anyone who goes to Bukit Tambun for the seafood. Ghee Seng Seafood Restaurant is situated beside a river, diagonally opposite the state’s Batu Kawan Stadium.
Fried Mee Tiao – RM 7. No comment, tastes normal. So far I haven’t found any restaurant that can fry a very nice plate of mee tiao.. if you know any, leave a message
Steamed Mini Octopus – RM 8. They are tasteless, you need to dip them into the Thai chilli sauce to really enjoy it.
Fried Oyster – RM 8. I have had better lol, oysters given were ridiculously little.
Siao Bai Cai – RM 6. We actually had 2 plates of this because a stupid fly dropped into our first one. The problem with eating here in Ghee Seng is the big amount of annoying flies. You will be too busy chasing them away that you cannot really enjoy your meal in peace.
Satay – RM 9 (15 sticks) The satay was very nice, special too because they are barbecued together with the peanut sauce.
Fried Soft Shell Crab – RM 16.
Sweet and Sour Crab – RM 20 (3 flower crabs) This is the highlight of our meal, the nicest one too. The crabs were very fresh (they were still alive before being cook) It didn’t really tasted like how it was described, it was pretty spicy lol.
Fried Buns that come with the Sweet Sour Crab, to dip in the gravy. Actually, if not for the flies, this would be one of my favorite seafood restaurant in Bukit Tambun.
