Bermuda & Onion Western Cuisine @ Changkat Bukit Bintang, KL
Jul 20th
Clever business owners have taken up the pre-World War II houses along Changkat Bukit Bintang and turned them into a potpouri of international restaurants. Whatever international fare that you have in mind – French, Italian, Japanese, German, Indian, or Brazilian, it is most probably available here. No wonder foodies fall in love with this place instantly.
Not too long ago I got an invitation from Shalyn of Flam’s Inc to dine at one of their outlet at Bermuda & Onion along Changkat Bukit Bintang. Cute name for a restaurant, I kept wondering if the dining concept was related to the Bermuda pants or the Bermuda Triangle lol. Being a fine dining restaurant, B&O offers s wide menu of Western cuisine and featuring a lot of pork.
It soon became clear to me that B&O’s name was given by the former head chef, who got the inspiration from another restaurant of the same name in France. You will find the atmosphere here relaxed, funnily decorated with a couple of onions scattered around loosely – do keep an eye out for them.
Romain is the restaurant manager, a charming and friendly man helped with his team of ever attentive and polite team of waiters. Like usual, we would choose to sample one item from each section of the menu.
For soup, we had the Creamy Mushroom Soup @ RM16 made using a mixed of wild mushrooms and served with a garlic crouton. The thick and creamy consistency was a good thing but I found the wild mushroom’s taste was a little heavy. I really liked dipping the crouton into my soup, it was crunchy and helped to subdue the strong mushroom taste.
Skewer Combo Platter @ RM32 is a combination of Prawn & Parma Ham, Asparagus & Bacon & Scallops & Ham. Click here to continue reading >
The Pink Sage Diner And Pantry @ Jalan Dang Wangi, KL
Jul 12th
** The Pink Sage has moved to a new outlet at Solaris Dutamas. Details here **
I remembered blog hopping one day and stumbled upon epicuriousgirl’s dining experience in a diner and pantry called The Pink Sage at Dang Wangi. The images of the hearty breakfast stuck in my head ever since, because it looked just too good.
And much to my delight Shaun Chan, one of the three partners of The Pink Sage Diner and Pantry invited me to sample their latest dinner menu two weeks ago.
Although I was supposed to have a go at their dinner menu, it was only noon when I reached The Pink Sage. So, all-day breakfast seemed like a good choice considering I haven’t had mine yet that day. Click here to continue reading >
Sweet Potato Balls @ Petaling Street, KL
Jun 22nd
Do you know there’s a stall selling sweet potato balls outside the Tang City Food Court at Petaling Street? I didn’t until I bought TheStar’s Street Food Guide. My parents were in KL not too long ago for a short trip and I brought them to try the famous porridge at Hon Kee.
After that, while they went to buy some traditional biscuits at Fung Wong Biscuits to bring home, I went to find this stall and bought some to try.
It is said that the stall has been here for nearly 30 years, and the sweet potato balls are always prepared fresh.
Serai Satay Bar, Satay on the go @ Pavilion
May 27th
Located next to Food Republic, Serai Satay Bar is one of the latest eateries to open in Pavilion. They are introducing a new way of enjoying satay, which they call it Satay-on-the-go or Satay-To-Go.
Contrary to the conventional way of enjoying satay at the road side or taking away back to the home, Serai Satay Bar lets the customers enjoy satay in a specially made container, which can be easily carried along while you shop.
Because of the bar concept, customers can choose to either sit around the satay kiosk or at the table. Sitting around the kiosk would grant you a full view of the food preparation, while magazines are provided at the table for your reading pleasure.
So I was there last Sunday to meet Qistina, the owner of Serai Satay Bar to give the revolutionary concept a try.
After a brief introduction on the menu and their specialties, we got down to business straight away as we were hungry. While waiting for the food to arrive we had the Serai Blended @ RM5.50 (a drink that came highly recommended by Qistina) and Milky Bandung @ RM5.
According to Qistina, the Serai Blended originated from their family restaurant Serai Thai at Shah Alam. It is a highly popular drink over there so they figured that it would be good to make it available at Serai Satay Bar too. Click here to continue reading >
