Kei Tak Sek Shaved Ice Desserts @ Kepong
Dec 14th
Went back to Kei Tak Sek (K.T.Z Food – Restaurant The Fruitti Stall) at Kepong a while ago to savour their famed lohs. Lohs, lol.
I had the Mango Loh, which is shaved ice surrounded with fresh mango chunks topped with mango puree and sago. Taste wise I think it had deteriorated a bit compared to last time. I suspect it had something to do with all the hiring of foreign workers to make the desserts. You may get sweet mango if you’re lucky. I wasn’t, so mine tasted a bit sour.
By the way, try not to look at the process of making the dessert. The sight of a foreign worker cupping the shaved ice with his bare hands (don’t know clean or not also, and not wearing any gloves too) does not augur well to your eating experience later, lol.
Daorae Garden Korean BBQ @ Desa Sri Hartamas
Dec 3rd
I went to Desa Sri Hartamas a few weeks ago to look for Western food and ended up in Carvell’s. It was a lousy dinner with lousy food and bad service so I won’t post it. But, I did notice that there are freaking many Korean restaurants in Sri Hartamas, mostly Korean BBQ. Are there so many expatriate familes from Korean residing in Sri Hartamas?
Seeing so many Korean BBQ restaurants, I recalled I only tried [tag]Korean BBQ[/tag] once at Seoul Garden Autocity and it didn’t impress me. Reason could be it was franchised and the food was not that traditional. So, I returned a week later hoping to try a more authentic Korean [tag]BBQ[/tag]. I chose Daorae Garden among all because of its popularity.
Daorae Garden is run by a Korean boss and he was around to welcome customers as well as taking orders. To enjoy the Korean BBQ, at least two types of meat must be ordered from the menu.
If you have already confirmed having Korean BBQ, they will start serving soup and the side dishes immediately. The soup was tasty and had kim chi and cabbage in it. I have to admit the first few sips felt a bit weird for me but after that it left a warm and fuzzy feeling in my belly.
Korean Steamed Egg.
And a whole lot of Korean side dishes, ten of them altogether! One of my concerns before coming here was on the side dishes. From what I see in the other blogs while researching Korean BBQ, the side dishes looked really alien to me. I was really doubtful they would taste good, lol. In the end, luckily there were only two or three which I disliked eg. kimchi, mashed potato (sweet and cold) and cockles.
Stadt German Cuisine & Bistro @ Kepong
Oct 29th
My birthday was two weekends ago and we went to Stadt Restaurant to celebrate it via a simple dinner. Stadt is a German Cuisine & Bistro which was brought to my attention by one of my readers – Khor after he read my post about Ingolf Kneipe.
Actually, I was already here even before my birthday about 6 months ago when I just started working in Cyberjaya. I didn’t blog about it until now because I wanted to try more dishes. But, that didn’t turn out as expected, you will know why later lol.
Stadt’s menu is very extensive with various types of meat available like pork, chicken, lamb and seafood. Just for your information, grilled items have a minimum 25 minutes waiting time. And if you are a drinker then you’d be glad to know Stadt also serves imported German beers. I heard the best way to enjoy German cuisine is by having beer, lots of it lol.
Anyway, the first time we were here (6 months ago), we ordered the German Pork Chop which was RM19.90 that time.
Pan Ki Dim Sum @ Sri Petaling
Oct 2nd
On the first day of Raya, I started off the day by having a wonderful [tag]dim sum[/tag] [tag]breakfast[/tag] at one of the best dim sum [tag]restaurant[/tag] in Sri Petaling – Pan Ki. Surprisingly, it has the same Chinese name with Phang Key – another good dim sum restaurant nearby in Happy Garden. I don’t know if they’re related but their dim sum is really different from each other.
The variety of dim sum at Pan Ki is wide and they have a big steaming station. Bamboo steamers stacked as tall as a man are used to cope with the huge customer turnout. I had to wait for a while before finally getting a table for two.
But the short wait has proven very worthwhile. The Har Gao was nice with succulent prawns wrapped in thin translucent skin that didn’t break easily – a proof of the chef’s skill.
Other steamed dim sum like Siu Mai and Har Mai are pretty good too.
