Mee Goreng @ Bangkok Lane
Feb 22nd
A while ago when I was talking to my lunchmates, they mentioned a mee goreng stall in Bangkok Lane that was featured in Ah Xian‘s eatery program. I didn’t watch it so I can only listen to their description. From what I heard, seems like the cook can fry the mee goreng in a very unique way. He can stir fry the noodles and spin the wok at the same time, somewhat like a performance. And even the [tag]mee goreng[/tag]‘s presentation looks promising.
My favorite Mee Goreng
Nov 15th
What’s your favorite breakfast? Could it be dim sum? Nasi lemak? Wantan mee? Tosai? Or do you sometimes wish you could be having something from another state altogether? Well I do miss Sarawak’s Kolo Mee and Laksa. And I also know many Malaysians abroad are missing the local food so badly they are dying to return. Too sick of bread and pasta I guess.
One of my favorites would be this nice mee goreng stall just minutes from my house in [tag]Bukit Mertajam[/tag]. The old couple has been selling mee goreng here faithfully for the past twenty years.
Haji Mohd Tokun Mee Goreng

This is another good food stall recommendation by one of my colleagues, Peng Hooi. We were talking about [tag]mee goreng[/tag] and he recommended Haji Mohd Tokun Mee Goreng in [tag]Bukit Mertajam[/tag] 大山脚. Apparently I pass this stall almost everyweek and yet I didn’t know it is good lol. That’s why I like to ask around for good food
It is super easy to locate this noodle stall. Along the road to St Anne’s Church pass Taman Sentosa you will see a Caltex petrol station. Haji Mohd is just beside the petrol station. The name of the stall comes from the place where it started its business – Cherok Tokun.
Besides mee goreng, they also have [tag]Tokun Mee[/tag] Kuah Ketam, mee rebus and pasembur. I dunno about you but that mee kuah ketam certainly sounds yummy to me lol. Anyway a plate of mee goreng costs RM2.50. There are 2 cooks preparing the dishes at one time so waiting time is not too long. Although the stall is located at the road side and appear shoddy, I must commend on the cleanliness, there wasn’t a single fly around!
What’s on top of the noodles are actually sweet-spicy cuttlefish. At first I mistook them as fried onions and scooped them away lol. The mee goreng is great and one day I will surely return to try the mee kuah ketam.
Mee Jalil
Sep 13th
If you go pass Sungai Ara quite often, chances are you will see a man in his 40′s selling mee at a small stall by the road. From his stall’s name “Mee Jalil” I assume his name is Jalil? Anyway [tag]mee goreng[/tag] and mee rebus are available @ RM2.30 per packet – tasted quite ok la, uses charcoal to cook one. He usually opens from 6.30pm onwards, but can be MIA for consecutive days at times.. I guess luck is also needed to see him ![]()
