Portugese Grilled Seafood @ Oasis Food Court, Mid Valley
Aug 4th
An ordinary looking stall in an ordinary food court in Mid Valley is drawing the crowds. What seemed like an economical place to have lunch and dinner for the mall’s workers is also frequented by the customers. They make a beeline for the not-so-ordinary Portugese Grilled Seafood, which is popular for the tastiness and fair (pretty cheap I dare say) pricing.
Like any other grilled/bbq seafood you can choose to have a type of seafood only, or a combo of your liking eg. Bawal + Lala, Pari + Lala, Pari + Sotong. A set that comes with a serving of white rice is typically RM7.90. More expensive if a better fish is selected. Click here to continue reading >
Halal Seafood and Crab @ Bangsar Seafood Garden Restaurant, One Bangsar
Jul 31st
Thanks to KampungBoyCityGal, I got to tag along for an invited dinner at Bangsar Seafood Garden Restaurant. It is a HALAL classy seafood restaurant that have catered for numerous company events, family functions and banquets. Residents staying within the vicinity of Bangsar should know this place well, it’s located in One Bangsar just opposite TMC.
I also had the pleasure of meeting Ivy for the first time. After a brief introduction to Bangsar Seafood Garden, food was served immediately. A menu was designed specially for the eight of us, which consisted of none other than, plenty of seafood. For your information the dishes’ portions were prepared according to the number of attending guests.
Loh Han Vegetables (Luo Han Zhai) @ RM40, a vegetarian dish cooked with mainly mushroom and dried beancurd in soy sauce then served in a circle of broccoli.
I have mentioned before that I would love to try Cod Fish in a different way other than always having it steamed. I got to try it that day and I loved it, perhaps even more than the steamed version. Click here to continue reading >
Kota Kinabalu Trip Day 2 Part 2 – Dinner at Luyang and Old Village Seafood Restaurant
Apr 25th
By the time we reached our hotel after returning from whitewater rafting, it was already 8.30pm and KampungboyCitygal was waiting for us for dinner.
Not sure where to go, we asked Lavender Lodge’s owner to recommend us some seafood restaurants which the locals usually patronize. And Salut, Luyang and Gayang were suggested.
After considering time and cost factor, we decided to give Luyang Seafood Restaurant at Luyang (yes, the restaurant has the same name as the location) a try because it was the nearest and also the cheapest via taxi (RM12). Other places like Salut and Gayang would have taken at least 40 minutes to reach and the taxi wanted to charge us a whopping RM120!
I think we were unlucky to reach at Luyang quite late because most of the seafood like prawns and clams were finished. Not even a single clam or prawn was left lol. We were only left with fish and crab, which Luyang Restaurant was famous for.
Our first dish was Spicy and Sour Crabs @ RM28/kg for the female mud crabs.
I had quite high expectation in this dish actually, since it was supposed to be Luyang’s signature dish. Looks wise it was already a winner but I felt it the crabs weren’t anywhere spectacular.
The gravy, initially quite tasty turned jelly like after being left cold and the crab meats always stuck to the shell, making the peeling even more difficult. At one point we were so frustrated with all the hard work peeling the crabs (and so little flesh!) we wanted to stop eating altogether lol.
After a disappointing first dish, things started to look up with the arrival of Braised Garoupa in Claypot – RM25 if not mistaken. The Garoupa was meaty and flavorful, really nice especially when it was still warm. Click here to continue reading >
vkeong’s Trip to Kota Kinabalu Day 1
Apr 14th
If you didn’t know, I went on a 3 days 2 nights trip to Kota Kinabalu the last weekend courtesy of MAS. My companions were none other than SL and the lovely couple of Kampungboycitygal.
For your information, the fare to Kota Kinabalu from KLIA via MAS starts from as low as RM124! And it’s possible to get such low fares if you plan your trip early. Considering there’s two public holidays coming soon in May, I did a search just now for flights to KK from KL and I was pleased with what was offered:
The total price (round trip) including tax is only RM444 for Economy class, very affordable. If you feel like visiting Kota Kinabalu after reading my experience, be quick and book a flight now while the seats and fares are still available! Better still, head on to MAS Facebook page, become a fan and enter the ongoing contests to win cool prizes like flight tickets.
Our flight was at 9am, and check in was fast and easy using the kiosk check in at the airport. If you have any doubts while using the kiosk, feel free to ask the MAS staff around. I am sure they would be glad to assist you just like how they helped me. Oh, this was the plane we boarded – flight number MH80.
Knowing that I will be going for white water rafting and island hopping, I brought extra clothing. It’s a good thing we are allowed up to 20 kg baggage allowance, more than enough for me to store my clothes, tripod and battery chargers for phone and camera. Yeah I know I bring a lot of stuff when I go traveling, even if it’s a short trip lol.
LCD screens displaying the flight route can be used to watch movies too. Our seats were comfortable with good leg space and MAS was courteous enough to provide each passenger a blanket and neck pillow. Although the journey took more than two hours, time flied when I chatted with Kampungboycitygal.
Shortly after take off, we were served breakfast with the options of nasi lemak or Western breakfast consisting of omelet, hash brown and sausage. I picked nasi lemak because I knew it’d be great based on my previous food tasting session. Glad to say it didn’t disappoint.
Citygal’s breakfast meal. It had bun, butter, fruits, yogurt drink and some Ferrero Rocher chocolates just like mine. Thanks for letting me snap a photo lol.
