Uncle Leong Seafood – Crabbylicious Crabs @ Ang Mo Kio Ave 3
Oct 4th
If you guys don’t know yet, I have relocated to Singapore due to work reasons. I have been here for a week and I will continue to be here for at least a year or longer till my new project ends. To be honest, I was quite hesitant about traveling to Singapore because everything I had is in Malaysia but I took up the opportunity after all.
I am currently in the midst of sorting out my life – finding a room to stay, getting Internet access, adapting to new job responsibilities and etc. So if you feel I have been slow in updating and find my recent entries are posted very cincai-ly, this is the reason lol.
Since I am talking about Singapore, I might as well talk about the food. One month prior to relocating to Singapore, SL and I took a weekend trip here. That time, I kinda knew I was going to work in Singapore soon but nothing was officially confirmed yet.
The first night of our trip we took a bus to Ang Mo Kio Ae 3 to try some crab dishes in Uncle Leong Seafood Restaurant, a seafood restaurant highly recommended by her sister who have dined there a couple of times.
I noticed that many seafood restaurant in Singapore serves Sri Lanka Crab for their crab dishes, Uncle Leong included. Sri Lanka Crabs are like a much bigger version of the mud crab or meat crab we always see in Malaysia.
A must try dish in Uncle Leong would be his Crab Mee Hoon, in which a whole Sri Lanka Crab is used to prepare a claypot’s portion of mee hoon. I was quite skeptical about the taste initially but the dish totally blew my mind. It was freaking CRABBYLICIOUS.
This is the size of a single claw from the Sri Lanka crab, just look at its monstrous size (use the chopstick and compare). And this is found in a coffee shop under in a normal HDB block, not any classy seafood restaurant! Click here to continue reading >
Singapore Flyer – Tallest Ferris Wheel In The World
Sep 2nd
The Singapore Flyer (Chinese: 新加坡摩天观景) is currently the tallest Ferris wheel in the world. Described by its operators as an observation wheel, it reaches 42 stories high, with a total height of 165 m (541 ft), and is 5 m (16 ft) taller than the Star of Nanchang and 30 m (98 ft) taller than the London Eye.
Located in Singapore, on the southeast tip of the Marina Centre reclaimed land, it comprises a 150 m (492 ft) diameter wheel, built over a three-story terminal building which houses shops, bars and restaurants, and offers broad views of the city centre and beyond to about 45 km (28 mi), including the Indonesian islands of Batam and Bintan, as well as Johor, Malaysia.
The final capsule was installed on 2 October 2007, the wheel started rotating on February 11, 2008 and it officially opened to the public on March 1, 2008. Tickets for rides on the first 3 nights were sold out for S$ 8,888 Singapore dollars (US$6,271)(£3,150.83GBP), an auspicious number in Chinese culture. The grand opening for the Flyer was held on 15 April 2008.
Because we flew to Singapore with Jetstar, each of us got a complimentary ticket to the Singapore Flyer. All we had to do was present our boarding pass to the ticketing officer in exchange for the free ride. If you are paying, it costs S$29.50 for an adult! Not exactly cheap yeah.
Personally I feel evening is not the best time to visit, but then if you visit in the day the weather might be hazy or rainy and you won’t be able to capture nice night views. Ah! Decisions decisions.. For us, it rained during the day so it made taking photos even more difficult because of the raindrops on the capsules’ windows, damn frust one. And do click on the photos to view them in full size! (1024 x 684)
A capsule just arrived to pick up passengers. Each capsule can only carry up to 28 passengers at one time.
On the way to enter the capsules..
Our capsule arrived! Actually photography is not allowed here.. But who cares? lol
First view from the capsule.. you can actually see the F1 grandstand on the lower right. By the way all the photos were taken hand held so please pardon the blurs or noise, I left my tripod in Taiwan lol. The wheel was always moving anyway so I doubt a tripod would really help? I dunno lol.
And to make things worse, the capsules were lit with blue, red and purple colors. The colors’ reflection on the window makes the already difficult situation even trickier to take photos..

Thye Hong Fried Hokkien Prawn Noodles @ Food Republic, VivoCity
Sep 1st
Was in Singapore during the last weekend for a short holiday. One of the things I always wanted to try was their Fried Hokkien Prawn Noodles. Well this is available in KL actually, namely Thye Hong at Pavilion’s Food Republic but it would be better if I could try a more authentic one.
We went to Geylang to hunt for the famous Swee Guan Fried Hokkien Mee in the afternoon, looking for it at Lorong 29 for nearly an hour only to find it CLOSED. What a waste of time and energy, plus it was raining too!
Since we couldn’t try the hawker version, we decided to try Thye Hong at VivoCity‘s Food Republic instead. Besides Fried Hokkien Prawn Noodles, they also have Fried Koay Teow and Fried Oyster Omelette.
The smallest serving is S$4.50 and the portion is quite large and filling, comes with three moderate sized fresh prawns as well (fresh water ones though). Don’t convert it to RM or you will feel its expensiveness lol. For Singaporeans earning Singapore Dollar, it is considered quite cheap.
