Snowy Dessert Home @ Sunway Pyramid
Oct 5th
One day when we were shopping at Sunway Pyramid, we felt a little hungry and wanted to eat something to fill our stomachs. While walking around to hunt for food, we saw some pretty girls dressed in cute costumes handing out flyers of Hong Kong snacks.
You know, stuff like curry fish ball, little bowl fins 碗仔翅 and desserts. The food seemed interesting (and cheap) enough so we decided to give Snowy Dessert Home a try. Besides, the portions didn’t look big which was perfect for a quick bite. Trust me it wasn’t because of the cute girls we dined here. Well, maybe a little LOL.
What really caught my attention among all was this Italian Herbs Spaghetti @ RM8.90. It was one of the two available spaghettis to choose from, with the other one being Spaghetti with Tomato Sauce. Because the dish looked really great on the menu, we couldn’t resist ordering it. And the chef did a good job preparing it.
California Pizza Kitchen @ Suria KLCC
Aug 15th
A few days ago I was invited to join a food tasting session organized by IntegratedPR for California Pizza Kitchen (CPK) at KLCC. I was really flattered and surprised by the invitation, as the others on list were real journalist from major local newspapers and magazines.
Anyway, who would say no to free food tasting in a nice restaurant!
The food tasting session is aimed at introducing as well as promoting the eight new dishes in the [tag]CPK[/tag] menu. Among the eight new dishes, there are two [tag]salad[/tag]s, three [tag]pizza[/tag]s, three [tag]pasta[/tag]s and a [tag]dessert[/tag]. Miso Salad was featured first – a salad that has Shredded Napa cabbage with fresh avocado, julienne cucumbers, daikon, edamame, carrots, red cabbage, green onions, cilantro, crispy rice noodles and crispy wontons tossed in a Miso dressing.
Two additional ingredients – chilled-grilled chicken and grilled shrimp can be added to the salad at RM22 and RM14 respectively. I fully recommend adding the grilled shrimp to the salad, as they tasted awesome together. And the crispy rice noodles and wontons gave the salad even more “biting” texture. Miso Salad was one of the dishes I liked most that day, which came as a total surprise. It was just a nice, tasty salad!
Although the salad (and other foods) could feel pretty expensive by looking at the menu alone, be assured it’s well worth the money spent for the huge serving size. Since CPK is a US based restaurant, the serving size is bigger compared to those served locally. As you can see in the photo, the salad is more than enough to be shared among three people!
Next up was Mediterranean Salad, a chilled salad of cucumbers, red onions, fresh tomatoes and Greek olives tossed with crisp Romaine leaves and lemon-herb vinaigrette, served on a bed of hummus. It is topped with Feta cheese (cheese made with ewe’s and goat’s milk), sun-dried tomatoes and [tag]California Pizza Kitchen[/tag]‘s own homemade Tzatziki sauce. Pita bread is also served alongside.
Some of the ingredients in the salad are very new to me. For example the hummus is actually a dip made from cooked, mashed chickpeas then blended with olive oil, lemon juice, salt and garlic. Hummus is also known as one of the oldest known prepared food, popular throughout the Middle Eastern world. It was certainly a great idea by California Pizza Kitchen to incorporate so many fresh and colorful ingredients in creating this dish.
For me, the Mediterranean Salad felt like a really healthy dish, obvious from the amount of greens used. I didn’t eat much of the salad because I wanted to save space for the pizzas and pastas later lol. Like the Miso Salad, you can also opt for additional ingredients like grilled rosemary chicken breast @ RM10, sauteed salmon @ RM14.50 and grilled shrimp @ RM14.
The Works Pizza uses sweet Italian chicken and beef sausage, beef pepperoni, sauteed mushrooms, Mozarella cheese, mild onions, green peppers, black olives and CPK’s own tomato sauce.
Dinner @ Ristorante Bella Italia
Nov 12th
Last Thursday was my department dinner. It was held at an

There were 14 of us and we occupied like half of the restaurant lol. One of the appetizers offered is Fritto Di Calamari – deep fried squid ring served with tartare sauce @ RM15.00. We ordered 2 plates of this, it served as a great start.
This was my order that night, Bisueca Di Manzo Alla Boscaiola – grilled beef tenderloin steak with mushrooms @ RM42.00. It tasted OK only, and the meat wasn’t really as done as I wanted it to be. The grilled eggplants were bitter.. didn’t like them at all.
Spagehetti Alla Bella Italia – spaghetti with prawns, clams and asparagus in white garlic sauce @ RM25.00. I don’t know how it tasted but it sure looked good to me! I like the way the ingredients are arranged for presentation.
Agnello Alla Cacciatora Con Funghi – lamb shanks braised with mushroom @ RM32.00. I think this dish is worth your money the most.. the proportion is just huge! If you are wondering, shank is the part between the knee and ankle (according to the dictionary)
Trancie Di Tonno Alla Peperonata – pan-fried tuna steak served with flavourful tomato sauce and roasted capsicums @ RM32.50. This dish tasted good, and that’s coming from me who despises tuna now (I used to love it but not after a really bad experience early this year)
Our dessert, Tiramisu @ RM11.50. In Italian, this is called Mascarpone Cheese. It is basically a sponge cake layered with coffee (and chocolate too?) Funny though, I only felt the soft cheese part that melts almost instantly in the mouth
Shown here are merely a quarter of the dishes we ordered throughout the night. Other dishes we had include clam soup, various pizzas, tomato soup, mix seafood plate and baked chicken with black olives. A pity I didn’t bring my camera along.. it’s not often I get to eat good Italian food. Our bill came to a close RM800, RM900 if you take into account the service charges and tax. And yeah, I was stunned to know that lol.
Recipe: Corned Beef Spaghetti
Jul 31st
Preparing kick-ass [tag]spaghetti[/tag] is easy! [tag]Recipe[/tag] below:
- Run to your nearest hypermarket and buy these:
- Spaghetti
- Pasta Sauce
- Corned Beef / Sausages
- Onion
- Margerine
- Boil spaghetti (200gm serves 2 nicely) in salt water for 10-15 minutes until it’s soft.
- Stir fry sliced onions, corned beef and pasta sauce and add in some water. Amount of ingredients used is according to your liking, it won’t go wrong. You can also dice 2 sausages into the paste to add some texture as well as biting sensation (recommended) Corned beef is just too fine.
- Drain spaghetti into a bowl and add in 1-2 tablespoons of margerine. Mix well.
- Serve! Seriously, it tastes better than those sold outside.. My gf certainly has a talent in cooking spaghetti
All I did was mixing the spaghetti with margerine lol.
