Madam Kwan’s

During my trip in KL last weekend I had my dinner in [tag]Madam Kwan’s[/tag] at [tag]KLCC[/tag]. Besides KLCC, there are actually another 2 outlets in Bangsar and Midvalley Megamall. Looking at the menu, one would think that she is a [tag]Nyonya[/tag]. I had the same perception too, like she’s probably from Melaka and used to cook for her family.. But actually Madam Kwan is a Hakka and her first profession was a beautician! That’s really surprising.
The first time I went to the restaurant in Midvalley I had the nasi lemak, belacan kangkung, banana fritter and a couple of milkshakes. All of them were very good. After that I have gotten smart (or you can call me kiam siap lol). I don’t recommend ordering any of the drinks or desserts, as they are just too expensive. Go for sky juice, it will save you a lot. Take it from a poor chap like me
Nasi Bojari was what I had. It costs RM19.90 and comes with a whole fried chicken thigh, assam prawns, beef rendang and hard boiled egg. And you have the choice of substituting the beef with chicken curry (which I gladly did so). This is a very popular dish among the patrons for to its huge proportion and tastiness.
Another hot seller in the restaurant is the [tag]Nasi Bojari[/tag]. It has its origins in Indonesia, where the rice is meant for royalty, and is layered red, yellow and white. “We can’t do it here,” said Madam Kwan. So she did the next best thing — frying the rice with bits of chicken, garlic and dried prawns and lightly tinging the rice with red, and yellow from turmeric.
“It’s rice for royalty,” said Kwan, which is why the Indonesians who come to dine have not had it before.
Man the rice tasted so good I don’t mind eating here everyday if I have the money to spend lol.

Nice one. I had the normal white steam rice. Even it is just a white rice, it tastes very good. I wonder which brand they are using.

Mid valley branch sucks. The captain (I supposed), who wears white, named Patrick did not even greet me and never utter a single word during ordering. No thanks, nothing at all. A waitress went around asking a few tables disturbing customers, asking whisch customer taking char kuay teow as she needs to arrange chopsticks. With such high price for the food, the service is not justified at all.
