Banana Leaf Char Koay Teow @ Nam Heong Coffee Shop, Ipoh
Jan 18th
I have been to Nam Heong coffee shop a couple of times but never had the luck to try their Char Koay Teow, said to be quite good and recommended by many. In my past visits, either I was too late or the stall just didn’t open. I don’t know why, but I tend to reach [tag]Nam Heong[/tag] around 4 to 5pm everytime, which is also the time the stall would close for business.
Just a few weeks ago, I was at [tag]Ipoh[/tag] for a one day trip and went to Nam Heong again. This time, I was lucky and the stall was still open. Do you know how close I was? I was their last customer for the day!
Since I was the last customer for them, they double checked with us whether one plate was enough, lol. Costing RM3.50 a plate, the [tag]Char Koay Teow[/tag] did live up to its reputation, albeit a rather small portion. Prawns were big and juicy, cockles were fresh and it had good wok hei. Basically nothing to complain about the Char Koay Teow.
Flower Photography @ Rose Valley, Cameron Highlands
Jan 17th
If you are going to Cameron Highlands, I highly recommend paying Rose Valley a visit. Located minutes from Brinchang town, it is basically a beautifully landscaped rose farm with hundreds of rose varieties. Anyway, I spent my Christmas at [tag]Cameron Highlands[/tag] a few weeks ago and these are some photos from my visit to [tag]Rose Valley[/tag]. Obviously, this is not a food related post and the photos are of huge sizes. So yeah you’ve been warned lol.
I will try to write more about [tag]Rose[/tag] Valley if I have the time. If I do, it will be a long post because Rose Valley is huge and one could easily spend a few hours admiring the flowers and taking photos. But for those who are in a hurry, a quick tour can be completed within twenty minutes.
KFC Zinger Tower review
Jan 15th
When I am only alone, I tend to eat fast food
Friend A was busy working late
Friend B was playing badminton
Friend C had already eaten
So, it was me all alone again
My choice was either [tag]KFC[/tag] or McDonalds
Between KFC Zinger Tower and Prosperity Burger
I don’t like the overwhelming black pepper sauce of Prosperity Burger
So, I had a Zinger Tower from the X-meal
Didn’t really care about the negative reviews I saw on forums
Because I was curious
What is Zinger Tower?
It’s a Zinger burger, with extra things and some modifications
Mayonaise was substituted zesty lime chili sauce
Some people said it tasted like dish wash
But I thought it was OK
A hash brown was added under the [tag]Zinger[/tag] fillet
It was pretty soggy and bland
But it did make me feel fuller
Oh yeah, I don’t like Pepsi Max
So I requested normal Pepsi
X-meal cost RM10.50, ok lah
Zinger Tower ala carte cost RM6.60, omg
My overall verdict?
GIVE ME BACK MY ORIGINAL ALREADY AWESOME ZINGER
I have a feeling KFC introduced this to fight with McD’s Prosperity
I think it won’t be effective
Instead, it would only drive the Zinger lovers away
Cham loh, it will be on the menu for quite long
How ar? Sien
RM1.20 Nasi Lemak @ Jalan 223, Petaling Jaya
Jan 13th
As part of an effort to hunt for cheap and tasty food, I landed myself at Selera Jaya 223 @ Petaling Jaya for their famous nasi lemak. The [tag]nasi lemak[/tag] here is well known for being prepared hot and fresh with delicious sambal. I believe what appeals to many the most (including me) is the affordable price at RM1.20 per pack. Anyway, from what I gathered the price used to be RM1 not too long ago. Guess inflation is the biggest culprit eh?
There are two brands of nasi lemak being sold here, one being ‘Yati‘ and the other ‘Suri‘. Both are placed on almost every table in the food court, differentiated only by the packets’ somewhat faded ink stamps.
Yati’s nasi lemak has red ink stamps on them, while Suri’s has blue ink stamps instead. The packets are warm to touch too, a good indication that the nasi lemak is indeed freshly prepared to ensure the top quality and taste. Personally I prefer Yati’s nasi lemak simply because sambal pedas is used, which gives the kick.
Just because I preferred Yati’s, this does not mean Suri’s nasi lemak is bad. If you have low tolerance for spicy food, then Suri’s is the better good choice. The [tag]sambal[/tag] is more watery, with the taste closely resembling sweet chili crab’s gravy. Usually half a boiled egg and some fried anchovies are included in each pack. But if you’re lucky you might get one with a full egg, just like I did lol. And since the packets are quite small, one could easily finish a few with ease.
