Italiannies Italian Food @ The Curve
| Share |
This is about a dinner SL and I had at Italiannies The Curve last year which I didn’t blog about. Well, sometimes I intend for a second visit to consolidate both experiences into a post for the purpose of showing more food. But, [tag]Italiannies[/tag] isn’t cheap so the second visit didn’t materialize.
As a result, my photos ended up collecting dust in my archive folders for more than 6 months lol. It is now or never, please let the photos see the light of the day yeah.
I believe Italiannies need no further introduction to KL people. It is a restaurant well known for serving [tag]Italian food[/tag] with rather generous portions. Their tag line is “So Much, So Good, So Share” indicating that the food portion is huge, taste good and best to be shared among family and friends.
And if I am not mistaken there was a promotion back then where 4 people could share a meal consisting of appetizers and main courses for only RM79.90. Price may be wrong but it doesn’t matter lah.
Being a [tag]lamb chop[/tag] freak, it was only natural I ordered the Italinnies’ Lamb Chop @ RM43.90. Looking at the price (and remembering the tag line), I was expecting a huge cuts of lamb chop. But the portion turned out to be pretty small instead.
Good thing was it looked super awesome and rack of lambs are given. I have had plenty of lamb chops in my life but haven’t seen any served like this before in real.
It was cooked perfectly, slightly pinkish in the middle which preserved the natural taste. I cut a little meat off the lamb rack so you could see the pinkish middle.. omg. Just when I thought the lamb chop was great enough, the brown sauce made it even better – it was the perfect condiment to provide extra sweetness.
It kinda reminded of Bumbu Bali‘s very own brown sauce, minus the black pepper. Oh yes I have another entry about Bumbu Bali’s lamb chop still pending, for months already! lol.
We also had a bowl of Marsala Mushroom Soup @ RM12.90, which had a nice thick consistency and plenty of mushroom slices. Luckily we did not order any drinks because we struggled a bit to finish the big bowl of yummy soup. If you noticed, some olive oil are given too. Extra virgin or not, I don’t know lol.
For SL, she had the Chicken Lasagna @ RM24.90. What I know about Lasagna is very little – it is a type of pasta with plenty of cheese, and also Garfield’s favorite food lol. The first time I had Lasagna was delivered by Pizza Hut, it sucked a lot. Anyway, I don’t recall seeing any Lasagna being sold in Penang other than Pizza Hut. Except maybe in high class Italian restaurants that I couldn’t afford to dine in.
Taste wise it was pretty good at first, being cheesilicious and all. But you should know what would happen if you had too much cheese and cream right? You get sick of it! The portion was simply too big even for two men, let alone a lady. We had to no choice but to stop after managing to finish only half of it. Thinking back now it was quite a waste, sigh.
The bill came up to a total of RM94 for 3 food ordered, inclusive of 5% Govt tax and 10% service charge. Do you think it’s expensive? Anyway, if I ever return to Italiannies again, I would have at least 3 friends with me – to share the food!

the food here has been inconsistent for us. Sometimes good sometimes bad.. so.. hard to say – perhaps they have improved?!

vk: I have heard mixed reviews actually.. like you said, sometimes good and bad. Lucky for me it was nice albeit the a-little-expensive lamb chop.

May I have a few words about the food quality here based on the pics…
Rack of Lamb, they look certainly delectable..but..anyway..
Lasagne shouldn’t be served drenched in the oily tomato base..
A good lasagne (esp they’re selling for RM 24 for a piece) should be firm on overall at the same time moist in the inside WITHOUT the aid of oily tomato concoction seen in the same dish..
Probably customers have expressed their concern for dry lasagne before..?
vk: Hi adel, of course you can comment as much as you want
I have never had lasagna before except the one I had from Pizza Hut I mentioned earlier.. other than that.. I know nuts about Lasagna.. but if my memory served me well, the lasagna wasn’t really oily. in fact it was pretty dry. the only reason we didn’t finish it was simply because of the HUGE portion..
But thanks to you I do know something about Lasagna now

The lamb looks good. Hard to get good quality cheesy lasagna which I really enjoy esp those firm free standing yet maintain its shape type.

Oh I’ve eaten those type of lamb before, rack of lamb, in Mansion 32 Penang. It was exactly like what you showed, but there were 3 pieces given. If I’m not mistaken, the price was around RM68 for a set dinner inclusive of soup, salad, main course, cake and coffee/tea. Also, there are plenty of places selling Lasagna in Penang! (I’m an Italian food lover
) There’s one in Pulau Tikus (Bella Italia) and Mario’s in Batu Feringghi. Sold around RM20 I think. Check out my link for my old Mario’s review.

I agree that the portion served was pretty big and could easily feed 2 to 3 person. Normally we would order two or three appetizers and 2 main courses for a family dinner (6)so that everyone could have a taste of it.
One of my favorite is the Creme Brule desert. A must try!

just out of curiosity how did you order your lamb? (medium?)
The lasagne does look horrible – swimming in a sea of gloop. And Marsala Mushroom soup? I hope its just the name because putting Marsala (a sweet wine) into a soup makes zero sense.

I went there with my friend a few months ago,I dont think is a good restaurant to go for a meal as their didng staffs were rude and not friendly at all.We were waiting for more than 10 minutes to get the menu and seemed nobody attented to us and that time was not busy at all. So,we walked out in the end and hope whoever dined in there before and good luck and enjoy!

“Italiannies, The Curve, you really ruined part of my memories there!!”
It real lose my temper when eating the food. The dishes is not cook perfectly. Yet the lamb chop just a small portion (just fit to my hand, in others words, the bone is more than a meat, Ha!),so do others dishes (can’t remember the name) Though the steak and the chic parmagxxx taste ok.
Overall, i’m not very satisfied with the food that presented to me. The dishes is serve cool after long waiting. Friendly speaking, i rather save my RM226.10 and dine at Thai tong or others best brand restaurant will do.

The location is impressive, the ambiance is good. No complaints here. We ordered the Ceaser Salad which is good and a portion of Calamari which is a generous portion and was quite average. Then I had the urge to try the steak so I went for the Strip Steak, which was a sirloin steak. The Steak portion was good, had the crisscross seared look and the presentation was decent, no complains here. I thought I was in for a treat as visually it looks real good. Lo and behold, when i sliced a piece of steak and put it into my mouth, it was one of the most tasteless piece of steak I ever had, (and mind you I have had steaks all over the world.). The meat seem to have been frozen for a long time and had no meat flavor. I could have had better steaks at a Western Corner Stall in a coffee shop in PJ. and to think that I paid RM44.90++ for a piece of tasteless steak??????? I would have thought that a restaurant of this caliber could have done better. Frankly I don’t know how they can get away with serving such poor quality meat. I for one will not eat here again. Victoria Station, Jakes, San Francisco Steak House serve reasonable steaks which has flavor and even the good old Ship’s, although their steaks are over tenderised and mushy, serve more flavorsome steaks.
