BM Best Cendol @ Medan Selera Jalan Danby, Bukit Mertajam
| Share |
First, just let me say that Bukit Mertajam has never been famous for cendol. My hometown has some great food like Yam Rice, Duck Egg Char Koay Teow, Laksa, Char Koay Teow, Wantan Mee, Mee Goreng, Koay Teow Soup, Dry Prawn Noodle, Curry Mee, Nasi Lemak and so on. But cendol is definitely out of the list.
But if you are ever in Bukit Mertajam and looking for a cheap and refreshing bowl of cendol, then you must give BM Best Cendol a try. It is located near the town’s wet market along Danby Street, just behind KFC.
BM Best Cendol has been selling ever since I could remember and has become one of BM’s most historical eateries. I can’t remember the exact price for each bowl but if I am not mistaken it’s in the region of RM1 to RM1.50. To be honest while it is quite nice (above average), it pales considerably if compared to the ones found in the island namely Penang Road’s Teo Chew Cendol.

This is the original stall at Medan Selera Jalan Danby – a small hawker center selling mostly Malay food. The stall looks new and clean compared to the hawker center because it had a face lift a few years back. After that they also managed to occupy a proper shop that is located diagonally opposite them.
This is the new (well not really new but latest) branch of BM Best Cendol. If people didn’t know, they would think that a business rivalry is going on between the shop and the stall. But I have checked with them, they are indeed the same so it’s all fine lol.
But for nostalgia’s sake, I prefer to have my cendol in the old stall even though the place is older and dirtier. I still can remember the days I would cycle or even walk here to take away a few packets bach home as desserts after dinner. That time, each pack only cost like thirty cents. Before discovering Penang Road’s cendol, I used to think it’s the best cendol in the world.
Seeing this photo reminds me a lot of my hometown. Sigh, I wish I could go home soon. GPS Coordinates: N5 21.817 E100 27.679 (food court), N5 21.801 E100 27.681 (restaurant)

Dry prawn noodle? Haven’t really try it before. Only available in BM? Coz I don’t remember seeing it when I was in Penang Island. But that was like more than 5 years back lar. I must say that there’s not much of good cendol that I know of here in KL.
