Wong Mee Kee at Pudu is said to serve one of the best roast pork in KL but they are also notorious for being expensive with an attitude. Judging by the huge lunch crowd daily I guess price is only secondary when it comes to this luscious meat.
Roast Pork is only available after 12:30pm and they are sold by the strips at RM14.50 each. Even knowing how expensive pork costs nowadays, it still sounds like a lot to pay. But the good thing is each strip has enough meat to be shared between two so you should exercise caution when ordering.
The crackling pork skin is perfect and breaks with a snap when you bite it, satisfying even just by listening to it. However, the meat certainly does not melt in your mouth as exaggerated by some, which is not necessarily a bad thing because it would mean you are just consuming the fatty parts. But then it could be because we specifically asked for the half-lean and half-fatty cut. Anyway, if you are really into the kind of roast pork that disintegrates in your mouth then may I suggest trying Kuala Lipis Noodle’s?
While the roast pork lived up to its reputation, it is the roast chicken that stole the show. If I knew it was this good earlier then I would have ordered more of the latter and less of the former.
Ordering food is quite tricky here because you will get ignored from everyone unless you are one of their regulars, who obviously got better treatment and quicker service. So, put on your thick face, and just tell your orders directly to the Indonesian workers – the engine of the restaurant. I can’t imagine how they could manage the place without these dedicated workers around.
If you are coming during the weekends, do yourself a favor and avoid the peak hours. Anytime after 1.30pm would be great to drop by because the craziest hours would be gone by then and your food will get to you promptly.
