Dim Sum

“Soon Hong” Restaurant Dim Sum

There are 3 dim sum restaurants near my house, with only 5-10 minutes’ distance away. All of them serve Hong Kong dim sum but the main difference among them is the variety of dim sum selections available.

“Soon Hong” 顺丰 Restaurant is located along Lorong Tembikai 1, Taman Sri Rambai (Jit Sin High School is located here too) This restaurant used to sell Bak Kut Teh but closed some years ago. It has now resumed business, and selling dim sum too in the morning.

Other than the normal Har Kau, Siu Mai and Har Mai, this restaurant features many other types of dim sum I have never seen before. The lotus leaf rice sold here seems to be quite a hit too, it was ordered by almost every table.

Stuffed Crab Claws.. I doubt the stuffed meat were real crab flesh. Looks tempting but tasted a bit bland.

We weren’t too satisfied, so we ordered more :)

This is quite out of the ordinary: rolled pork, ham and dried seaweed with a slice of carrot sandwiched.

Steamed dumplings with mixed vegetables. Our bill came up to RM17+, including 2 Milo, one iced. “Soon Hong” serves good dim sum, but one thing I didn’t like was the warmth of the dim sum. The carts used here to push the dim sum around didn’t have boiling water underneath to keep them warm. The dim sum are steamed at the counter then moved to the carts. So if possible, try to grab them as fast as you can, or request the waiters for them to be re-heated.

“Kee Tak Zek” Restaurant

“Kee Tak Zek” @ KTZ restaurant, pronounced as “Kei Tuck Sek” in cantonese – means “Remember To Eat” is a chain of restaurants that reside in KL area. They are famous for their variety of “Thong Shui”/desserts and Dim Sum. I’ve visited 3 different KTZ outlets in Kepong, SS2 and Jalan Imbi.

A cam-shot of the desserts being offered. Their Peanut Butter Thong Shui has been praised by many who tried it. The list includes.. Shang Jun and Siang Leng lol, so blame them if it’s not nice :P

Peanut Butter… oooo. I wanted to try something special so I ordered their Sesame Thong Yun. It was nice stuff, very recommended let me warn you first, they cost RM1 per biji. Lastly we ordered the “Bake Crab”, which is some Siu Mai stuffed in a poor crab shell :P A bit pricey for the proportion, not worth ordering again. Anyway it looks nice.

Kepong Dim Sum

“Dim Sum” – in Chinese meaning “a pinch to the heart” is a variety of dumplings and buns that can be either steamed or fried, normally served along with chinese tea. As the name implies, Dim Sum is to be treated as a light snack rather than a full meal.

Delicious Char Siu Pao, anyone?

Plenty of Siu Mais, who doesn’t love Siu Mai??

I have yet found any recommendable Dim Sum in KL, if you have any suggestions please do write a comment after this post. Few days ago I spent 2 hours driving around Sri Petaling and Bukit Jalil trying to find the 24H Dim Sum restaurant Ji Xian mentioned a few years back. After asking 8 different people, which include 3 Malay apartment guards, an Indian newspaper seller, a Chinese restaurant owner and 3 friends through phone calls, we still couldn’t manage to find that damn place. Really ‘da pai’.
