California Kitchen Pizza @ Farenheit 88 (MyDEAL e-Voucher) + RM15 Cash Voucher Give-away
Apr 30th
It has been almost years since I first dined at California Pizza Kitchen (CPK). But my memory of the restaurant still remains vivid and I could still remember the hearth-open-flame oven they use to bake the delicious pizzas. CPK has always been noted for their unconventional pizzas and are always innovating to incorporate new dishes into their menu.
Recently, MyDEAL launched a new deal for CPK that entitles the buyers to enjoy a 10″ pizza (available in 6 different flavours) plus a RM15 cash voucher that can be utilized in the next visit. The total value for this deal is actually RM45.24 but you will get to enjoy it for only RM15, which translates to about 67% discount in total.
When I knew about the deal, I jumped on and bought two e-Vouchers because the terms and conditions state that two vouchers can be redeemed at the same time per table. After I received the e-Vouchers from MyDEAL via email, all I had to do next was to make a reservation at CPK Farenheit 88. And lets not forget to print the voucher and bring it along to the restaurant for verification too.
The 6 different flavours of pizza you could choose are Original BBQ Chicken, Hawaiian, Pepperoni, Shrimp Scampi and Traditional Cheese. All of them are new to me so I asked for the staff’s opinion. He didn’t hesitate even for a second and recommended us to go for the BBQ Chicken and Hawaiian pizzas, which we did. Being fans of thin crust pizzas, we also opted to have our pan pizzas to be served on thin crust for an additional RM3 each.
Fatboy’s Burger Bar @ Publika, Solaris Dutamas
Apr 19th
Even though Publika is not yet fully occupied, there are quite a number of restaurants to eat at. Most of the busy ones are those which already established themselves in the F&B business and have their very own following of customers. Think Marmalade Cafe, Plan B, Wondermilk, Rakuzen, Chawan, Ichiban Boshi etc.
Among them I consider Fatboy’s Burger Bar to be one of the more interesting ones, because the rest can be pretty much found at other parts of KL especially Bangsar. If you are wondering, Fatboy’s Burger Bar is a Singaporean brand and this outlet at Publika is their very first in Malaysia.
If nothing in the menu suits you, you can opt to build your own burger here. It is quite similar to the Subway’s ordering process where you pick the types of bun, patty and other condiments. Not for me though, as I went for their signature burger with a less than appropriate name – Fat Basterd @ RM28.
Kim Laksa @ Nan Guang Coffee Shop, Balik Pulau, Penang
Apr 8th
So you are at Balik Pulau because some locals swear by the laksas here. Note I use the plural, because there are actually two types of tasty laksa you will find here – Asam and Siam (lemak) version. Once you get past the winding hilly roads leading to the small town, finding the laksa stalls will be a breeze – since they are just along the main street and better still, opposite each other!
There are two famous stalls here, one at Kafe Chuan Heong which I posted before and Kim Laksa at Nan Guang Coffee Shop. After having tasted both sides of laksa in the same afternoon, I personally do not find a lot of difference between them.
So to be honest, I can’t tell you which is better because it all boils down to your personal taste. But my preference leans towards Chuan Heong’s – simply because the soup is made spicier hence suits my palate better. And not to mention the coffee shop is more comfortable to eat at too.
Antipodean Cafe (Coffee – Culture – Cafe) @ Bangsar
Apr 3rd
In Britain and Ireland, Antipodeans are referred to the inhabitants of Australia and New Zealand. So, the Antipodean Cafe at Bangsar is an Aussie/NZ style cafe that is extremely popular for their breakfast and brunch menu.
Some claim that this is the best spot for breakfast and coffee in KL, which I feel is a bit far stretched. That being said, there is no denying that both the food and coffee here are undeniably lovely. Plus, the servings are hearty too. So chances are you will be skipping lunch after having a meal here in the morning.
Like the Magnificent Fish and Chips bar, there is no printed menu available here and you are supposed to refer to the chalkboard menu located inside the restaurant. I have nothing personal against this but when the crowd starts to grow, there will be a lot of undecided customers (including yourself) walking in and out – it is honestly quite annoying.
Antipodean cafe prides itself on using high quality Merdeka Coffee, an Indonesian brand that sources its coffee beans directly from farmers. Each cuppa starts from RM6 for an Espresso to a whopping RM40 for Kopi Luwak (civet coffee) We had the Latte and Cappucino @ RM8 each – smooth and aromatic with a mild acidic aftertaste.
