Tian Fatt was my next stop for KL-style Char Koay Teow. The coffee shop is located next to a temple, right opposite the entrance to FRIM so you would see a lot of nature-loving customers here. The one and only one CKT stall is operated by a lady who I was told is called Fanny.
Like Fei Lou’s in Jinjang, fresh cockles are also available; though you need to let her know if that’s what you want. Otherwise, she’d just fry up a normal looking CKT that doesn’t distinguish itself from the rest.
However, since I am here for the fresh cockles (as in they are peeled on the day itself) I asked if she’d accommodate my request to place the toppings on top of the noodles, as her usual practice is to bury the cockles under the hot noodles.
As you can see, she did. And for RM5, you get an unstinting amount of ingredients. So as far as price is concerned, it’s not something I would or could complain about.
I am aware that briefly cooked cockles are not everyone’s cup of tea, so here’s a normal order in which the cockles are fully cooked. Taste wise, personally I thought it was delicious considering it had everything you want in a plate of good CKT: nice ‘wok hei’, fresh seafood and aromatic with crunchy lard pieces. It’s quite spicy too which suits me but do note that the overall flavor is on the lighter side and not as heavy compared to Fei Lou’s.
If you happen to visit FRIM one day for exercising or hiking, this would be a great breakfast/lunch spot to fuel and replenish your body. Plenty of free parking space around too.
