Fong Keow Bak Kut Teh @ Klang

A few weeks ago I went to Klang in search of the best Klang Bak Kut Teh. I’ve visited and tried most of the Bak Kut Teh restaurant in Klang, and left only a few more to cover. My first stop was Fong Keow Bak Kut Teh restaurant, which is located in Taman Intan (formerly known as Taman Rashna). In Chinese this place is called “Lan Hua Yuan”.

In this area alone there are like five to six Bak Kut Teh restaurants. With such stiff competition, each restaurant needs to have their own distinguishable taste and quality to survive in the town of Bak Kut Teh.

I look for tender and fresh meat, herbal thick and sweet soup in a good claypot of Bak Kut Teh. And Fong Keow doesn’t disappoint. Pork ribs were actually given, which made me a happier man lol. Some are very stingy and only give the lean meats. What’s Bak Kut Teh without pork ribs, right? Anyway, a person’s serving with additional pork meat balls and yiu char koay is more than enough for two. One thing to remember is to come as early as possible because they sell out pretty fast.

To get to Fong Keow, use the Federal Highway and exit at Taman Rashna toll. Keep left or follow the road leading to Klang town until you see Jalan Batu Tiga Lama. Turn into Jalan Batu Tiga Lama and you will see Fong Keow immediately on your right.

  1. hmm, the serving looked pretty small. for one? but Klang BKT really took things up a notch or two. None in KL/Ipoh/Pg can come close.

J2Kfm’s last blog post..Restoran Makanan Laut Yam Yam, Ipoh

vk: You are definitely right about that.. In other places the BKT could be good, but in Klang, it’s MARVELOUS!

  2. ohh dis is nxt to teluk pulai bkt? nice also ar?..mayb nxt round i shud try this for comparison..

lotsofcravings’s last blog post..How much Pad Thai can one eat?

vk: Yes this is the once next to teluk pulai. I actually wanted to eat at teluk pulai at first but they have ran out of all the nice meats.. don’t have yiu char koay also..

  3. In Chai Leng Park night food street there have one Bak Kut Teh stall, the taste not bad and main thing is price is reasonable. can try there, furthermore beside there have “chen poh leong” big bowl and more ingredient.

  4. Will you believe if I had never eaten Bak Kut Teh before all my life? XD

vk: Aiyoh you are missing out one of the nicest food in Malaysia >_<

  5. yummy… dunno when will i go to Penang again.. good food, nice scenery… cute girls.. : ) – still thinking to take Firefly, MAS or Asia cos im staying in Petaling Jaya .. dunno which one is better.. hmmm

  6. The Teluk Pulai next door is definitely nicer, hence you will notice the nice meats are gone earlier. But I enjoy eating here too, coz its still a league better than most in KL.

vk: Is it? Then it’s on my next-to-try-Klang-BKT list then :D I am sure I’d be going to Klang pretty soon again hehe

  9. eh…went to try that day…renovated…now 2 shoplots…
i think the taste was ok only…
usually i go to the 2 shops behing gong keow…which is the 2nd n 3rd lot

  10. A definitely overrated restaurant I would say.

I feel like I was conned when the bill came out RM36 when I order 1 person bak kut teh, a plate of seafood toufu(8 pieces which the size is like eraser) and a yao mak(vegetable). My friend said that because we speak Chinese instead of hokkien therefore they chop us.

Besides that, they charge extra RM3 for golden mushroom for a single person bak kut teh which only cost RM10 that make up the total of RM13 for the whole pot. The taste is not that fantastic either and I consider it edible only. Seafood toufu which cost RM9 where I can easily purchase it readily at the market and it’s not like it’s homemade or anything special. Yao mak which is stingy in their oyster sauce that cost RM 8 where I can get it in PJ for a merely RM6.

Service is bad when I request for 1 extra rice and they gave me 2 rice which I have trouble asking them to take back. Then, they charge for 2 extra rice which I only notice after I left the building.(Well, I don’t really blame them for this as it might be mistake but guys do double check the receipt after you paid.)

This restaurant is now officially in my blacklisted restaurant.

  11. My family went to fong keow bah kut teh, klang last Sunday. The food cost a bomb, RM237 for BKT lunch for 9 people. Just can’t believe that the stupid abalone ( not many pieces n faked) itself cost RM135,00. Feel cheated, We have BANNED this restaurant. So BKT lovers to this shop, pls do ask n check the price first , otherwise you may be slaughtered!

5 reasons to eat at Fung Keow Pottery BKT:
      1) VERY nice environment
      2) VERY lousy taste
      3) VERY EXPENSIVE
      4) VERY VERY EXPENSIVE
      5) REALLY VERY EXPENSIVE & NOT NICE TASTE!

  12. Don’t come here. Service are bad and don’t taste good. They renovated and use electronic ordering system but its all screwed. Price are more expensive compared to others.
