** Gyutaro has been rebranded into KNK‘s 4th branch as of 27 July 2017 **
When it comes to Japanese food, you are less likely to go wrong with Yakiniku. So far, I have never had a bad meal Japanese BBQ meal in KL yet and touch wood, I hope I will never have one.
Usually, price is the only consideration when it comes to picking a yakiniku restaurant. Best of all, a meal can be simple, luxurious or in between depending on the breed, grade and cut of meat you pick.
The main reason we came to Gyutaro is because it shares the same parent company as Kanichikan Yakiniku (KNK). KNK is our top favorite yakiniku restaurant in KL so that automatically makes Gyutaro a safe choice. And we are glad to be right. You can expect the same excellent quality of food and service here, except that at Gyutaro, the dining atmosphere is more casual.
Gyutaro’s set lunch menu offers 20 choices that range from RM20 to RM75. The L17 set @ RM58 comprises of US Choice Bone in Short Ribs, US Choice Short Ribs & Aus Prime Ribeye. Rice, soup, appetizer, hot/cold tea and desserts are also included.
Even though the set is meant for one pax, the amount of meat given is enough to be shared by two. The meats are not marinated, yet they are flavorful enough to be eaten with their homemade soy and chili sauce.
We also had the Horumon combination platter of under tongue meat, prime beef tongue and pillar tripe @ RM38.16. They are marinated in salt and pepper, and are recommended to be dipped into the lemon juice to counter the saltiness. The thinly sliced beef tongues had a unique tender and chewy texture that I personally love.
For a good bang for your buck, you won’t go wrong with the beef tongue/under tongue meat that’s only available in the set lunch menu. Both items are only RM9, definitely value for money. But of course, you must love beef tongues in order to appreciate this.
