If you’re a fan of Penang Curry Mee, then Jia Li Mian Shi Guan restaurant deserves your attention.
They serve by far the most authentic looking (note: looks) Penang Curry Mee in KL with all the toppings you could think of including pork blood cubes, prawns, ginger flower and mint. For that alone, I give them A+ for the effort of preserving the authenticity.
Reasonable pricing is another reason why it’s worth your time. For a bowl like this that’s loaded with toppings, it costs only RM6.50. That’s borderline cheap and definitely ‘dai dou lan’ (抵到烂).
Although ginger flower and mint are not ‘the must have’ ingredients in Penang’s curry mee, it’s not uncommon for some of the hawkers there to include them for extra fragrance. With these, you will also taste a refreshing flowery accents in the soup.
If you don’t fancy having them or any of the toppings you see, simply notify them beforehand and they will happily substitute them with other things like pork skin or chicken curry.

When Penang curry mee is mentioned, most people would think of the white colored ones. In fact, Penang offers different styles of curry mee depending on where you are eating at, and this is one of them.
Taste wise, I’d say it’s pretty close to home (~85%) and the way they prep the toppings is spot on as well. They taste fresh and have the perfect texture and taste to complete the package.

Besides curry mee, Jia Li Mian Shi Guan also serves assam laksa, tomyam mee and fish ball soup noodle. Favorite Penang snacks such as lobak and otak-otak are available as well at RM3 and RM4 respectively. The lobak here gets my stamp of approval and I highly recommend you to try it.

Their signature drink is ‘Hor Ka Sai’ @ RM3.20 which is nothing but a mixture of Milo and local coffee with condensed milk. If you like your drinks ‘kao’ then this should not disappoint – just remember to stir well before enjoying.
Considering the large amount of bad eateries in KL that claim to serve authentic Penang food, discovering Jia Li Mian Shi Guan is like finding an oasis in the desert.
Unless you’re a real picky eater, I doubt you will be unhappy with what I had. Even if the food fails to meet your high standards, the value and quality of the meal should be more than satisfactory, especially in this dire economy.
