For a restaurant located at the quiet side of Solaris Dutamas, Ju.Ne seems to be doing pretty well with its own set of loyal customers. That’s always a sign of good things to come, right?
A huge display of sake bottles coupled with a bilingual menu (Japanese followed by English) give a character that is unmistakably Japanese. Which is why some of the more exotic items could be found in the assorted sashimi @ RM62.
One of them is the Monkfish liver, which has a creamy and delicate flavor. No wonder it is also called the ‘foie gras of the sea’. The other items were OK, quite fresh but just not as good as the ones I had at Ichiro Sushi Bar. Besides, the ebi still had some shells attached to it.
The salmon is the only redeeming point of this dish.
As for the main course we decided to try out their special combination set menu. You are presented with a few choices of main dish and you could choose up to two to make your own “customized” set. So the price of your chosen set will be determined by the item you chose. For example I had the B+B combination which consisted of a small portion of assorted sashimi and beef teppanyaki @ RM45. The beef was nicely cooked to a medium and the sauce tasted really appetizing, good to eat with rice.
SL had the A+B combo (teppanyaki cod fish and Saba Shioyaki), it was delicious as well. The only thing we were not very happy about was the portioning which seemed a little small for the price tag. Afterwards, we were shocked with the size of the Unagi Roll. It was only less than a handful and yet cost us RM18 and boy, it sure took its own sweet time to arrive.
I don’t think I could pass a fair judgement based on this meal alone because we did not fully explore the entire menu. But sad to say even though we were happy with the quality of most of the food, their small portions give an indication that it’d be the same for the other dishes – which are even more highly priced. And that alone does not justify a repeat visit from us.Ju.Ne Japanese Restaurant
