Kedai Makanan Ah Heng is a curbside hawker stall that serves a range of traditional Chinese meat dishes. They are perhaps most famous for their white pepper pig stomach soup – guaranteed to perk you up and warm your belly at the same time.

White-Pepper-Pig-Stomach-Soup

A single serving of the soup with strips of pork stomach and a pair of chicken feet costs RM9, a fair price considering the portion size. The soup is extremely peppery (as expected) but appetizing, best enjoyed while it’s still warm before the flavor goes flat.

Claypot-Sang-Kuat

Another quintessential dish here is the Claypot Spare Ribs @ RM12. Even though the soup looks similar to the pepper soup above, it’s actually sweet and savory with a nice herbal undertone. I was quite surprised at how tender the spare ribs were. They only needed a touch of light soy sauce to bring out the natural sweetness of the meat. Simple and nice.

Braised-Pork-Belly-and-Intestines

Next up, Braised Pork @ RM8. You could choose pork belly, trotters, intestines or also mix them up if you want. I thought this was average at best since I felt the braised sauce was not thick and flavorful enough. That said, the pork intestines were washed thoroughly so there wasn’t any funky smell.

Hua-Diao-Chicken

There are a couple of chicken dishes here but we decided to try the Hua Diao Chicken @ RM12 because chicken curry is too common, and we are not really a fan of rice wine chicken.
It was delicious thanks to the fragrant ‘hua diao’ aroma and a punch of ginger that always goes well with Chinese wine. Among the four dishes we tried, this was the strongest tasting one.

The menu is displayed on a signboard. If you can’t read Chinese, other offerings here include pig trotter in vinegar and ginger stew (zhu kiok chou), bitter gourd and pork ribs stew, pork belly with mustard cabbage (mui choy), pork trotter/belly with carrot, blanched vegetables (in oyster sauce) and fish cakes.

Our meal cost RM46.60 (inclusive of rice and herbal drinks) which is understandably pricey since we had four meat dishes. Overall the food here is not bad but nothing really fantastic either. Nonetheless, it was a worthy experience that I would recommend to anyone who’s interested in this kind of food.
