When people talk about nasi lemak in Kepong, they automatically think of the famous one at ‘wai sek kai’. Personally, I am not a fan because their sambal is sweet, and I like my sambal spicy.
So, I would like to share about Nasi Lemak Berlauk Auntie Mid. It is one of our favorites currently and we have been a customer for almost 2 years now.
The reason I did not blog about this earlier is because I was not sure whether the stall would actually persevere. I have seen many hawkers who shift from place to place or simply quit suddenly without notice. That means wasted time and effort on my part and I really don’t want to do this kind of meaningless stuff.
But kudos to the boss, he is here consistently almost every night (unlike the burger stall next to him) despite having to work a full time job in the day.
From what we were told, the rice and all the dishes are prepared using his mom’s recipes, hence the name ‘Auntie Mid’. Eventually, his wife picked up the recipes so whatever you see nowadays are actually cooked by the missus.
Besides excellent and spicy sambal, we also like his ayam masak merah and never fail add it to our nasi lemak – with extra kuah too. Other dishes available include sambal sotong, fried chicken and sunny side egg. He used to have sambal kerang as well but it is taken off the menu temporarily, as his wife hasn’t perfected the dish.
A packet of nasi lemak kosong without topping up any dishes is only RM2, while it’s RM8.50 for additional chicken, sotong, egg and extra sambal – not bad at all if you ask me.
Most people who come here take away their nasi lemak but you can eat at the stall too if you want. A table is set up at the side and proper utensils are provided.
Recently, I discovered two new places to get really good nasi lemak bungkus (with spicy sambal) which I hope I will have time to talk about later this month. But if you have been following my Facebook page you would have already known one of the places I was referring to.
