After trying out Naughty Nuri’s pork ribs, I was personally curious to see how the other equally porky establishment nearby – Naughty Babe Dirty Duck (NBDD) would compare to each other. But even before we headed to NBDD, I had already heard and read plenty of good things about the place, both from friends and online reviews. So you could say our expectations were quite high.
This is what everyone comes for – the NBDD Pork Ribs (RM38 half slab, RM68 full slab) served with either tomato salsa or Hot Stuff which is basically a Balinese sambal.
Well, it obviously looked good. I could even hear the “wow” from the customers when this was served so I am guessing full slab is not commonly ordered here. So did the pork ribs really live up to the hype? My other two dinner guests certainly thought so. As for me, yes and no. They certainly got the barbecue sauce right, it was thick, not overly sweet and gave the ribs a beautiful flavour. The slightly charred parts were delicious and tasted almost like ‘char siew’.
The meat however was tough and extremely chewy especially when you get to the center of the ribs. Plus, the marinade did not seep in enough to provide a consistent flavour across, so some parts of the ribs tasted better than the rest. If you want my advice (if it carries any weight), give the half slab a try first and if you feel that you REALLY like it, then only order another half slab. Don’t rush into the full slab immediately even though you’d be able to save a few bucks.
Although the ribs somewhat disappointed I was quickly redeemed by the Porky Burger @ RM21. The thick and slightly moist patty was perfectly seasoned, fries (a mix of potato and sweet potato) were crispy while the salad lent a fresh crunch to the burger.
We opted for the Stuffed Duck Leg with Turkey Ham @ RM28 instead of NBDD’s signature Dirty Duck. No regrets here, everything about this dish was nice and we found ourselves mopping up the rich red wine sauce with the creamy mashed potato.
Pan Fried Sea Bass @ RM28 – well cooked so the skin was golden and crispy while the delicate flesh stayed tender. However, the freshness of the fish was questionable as there was a fishy taste that I just couldn’t shake off.
Service was pleasant and attentive at Naughty Babe Dirty Duck so there’s nothing to complain about that. But I’d like to highlight that things could get tight and cramped given the small tables in a not-so-spacious dining environment. So if you are ordering any food for sharing, my suggestion is to ask the waiters to hold off on other individual dishes. Can you imagine the three of us were seated at a table no larger than 3ft x 3ft and all the food shown above arrived at the same time? It was not a very comfortable dining experience and I am sure you won’t enjoy it either, trust me on that.
