During my trip back to Penang for CNY celebrations last week, we went for a Mee Udang hunt. Reason being, there’s not a lot of Mee Udang in KL and even if there are, the taste is just isn’t same and not up to expectations.

Among the three that we tried, Pak Tam Mee Udang off a small Malay village in Teluk Kumbar gets our vote for being the best.
Not only their seafood was the freshest, the dining setting at Pak Tam Mee Udang is unmatched too. Imagine being seated on the seaside with an unobstructed view of the Malacca Straits, accompanied by gentle ocean breeze and the sound of the waves crashing on the beach.
You get all of this while enjoying savory and spicy seafood noodles, how do you top that? Better still, the food is affordable and you are not charged with ridiculous tourist pricing.
Since Pak Tam gets their seafood direct from the nearby fishermen at Sungai Batu, the prawns, squid and crabs served here are definitely fresher than what you get at the wet market.
Besides, they are perfectly cooked so they retain that delicious tender and succulent texture. The crab is so fresh, you can pull the flesh from the legs in one perfect piece, it just slides out effortlessly. So satisfying!
If you are here, there’s no reason not to try both Mee Kuah and Mee Goreng. I would suggest ordering a Mee Seafood (with kuah) @ RM20 and Mee Udang Goreng @ RM10.
The one with gravy has a spicy kick while the goreng version tastes slightly sweet, they are equally delicious.
With all things considered, I honestly think that Pak Tam Mee Udang is one of the best places to eat in Penang. They truly deserve it.
