This morning I finally get to try the famous curry mee at Lorong Seratus Tahun. As weird as it may sound, there is really such a street in Penang next to to McAllister Road. I have been wondering the exact location of this stall and didn’t realise I have drove pass that area so many times!
By the way, I will be leaving my job for Cyberjaya (again!) soon so I am trying my best to try all the good food in Penang while I still have the time. And my blog would most probably concentrate on KL and Selangor food instead already..
I first knew this curry mee from penangfaces. And I also read that the special thing about their curry mee is the dark chilli sauce, which adds a lot of oomph to the noodles. As you can see from the color of the soup, very little coconut milk is used.
This stall has been selling here for quite a long time and I think the current owner is the 2nd generation already. They even opened a new branch in SS2 Petaling Jaya. But I bet the taste won’t be as authentic and as good as this one along Lorong Seratus Tahun.
Here’s the chili sauce I have been talking about. Each table would be given a bowl and you may scoop as much as you like. As dark and as spicy it may appear, it’s actually not. I added three big spoonfuls of the chili sauce into my curry mee and it still was ok, wow am I that spicy tolerant? Anyway I refrained from adding more because the chili oil would make my soup too oily lol.
A regular order costs RM3.00 and RM3.50 for the bigger one. It comes with three fresh medium sized prawns, cockles, tau pok and lots of tu ang (coagulated pig blood) Recommended to try if you haven’t.
