I should really be kicking myself for not coming to Lim Mee Yoke sooner! Regardless of what others say about this place here, we enjoyed the food a lot and would recommend it to anyone craving for prawn noodle and Penang curry mee.
The restaurant’s popularity is obvious by the fact that it’s is jam-packed with patrons during off-peak hours. So unless you don’t mind sharing, finding a table of your own would take a while.
While waiting, we had a plate of Chee Cheong Fun @ RM3 (2pcs) to share. It’s not bad at all and we would have liked it more if the shrimp paste was slightly thicker.
Our noodles finally arrived after 25 minutes, they look mouth-watering and we knew that was a positive sign.
Lim Mee Yoke’s much talked about Penang-style prawn mee deserves every single good review it receives. The soup is robust, full of prawn flavor and more importantly does not taste like it was sweetened with sugar. The additional toppings are worth the money paid too considering the pork ribs and prawn slices cost only an extra RM3.50 and RM2.50 respectively.
In total, my prawn noodle was RM12.50, almost RM8 cheaper than what I had at Choon Prawn Mee – with A LOT more ingredients too. The one and only thing I thought was worth nitpicking was the texture of the soup which should have been smoother and finer. But maybe that’s just their style.
The curry mee delivered deliciously too. I like that they kept the recipe as authentic as possible and included prawns and pork blood cubes into the noodle. For RM6.50, it’s worth every cent.
After this satisfying meal, I am glad to say that my list of safe-places-to-enjoy-Penang food now also includes Lim Mee Yoke. The attitude of the staff is noteworthy as well. It has been a while since we have encountered genuinely nice and friendly service from such a popular eatery.
