Usually when people think of putu piring, they associate it with Melaka. That is probably because Gula Melaka is the traditional filling for putu piring. Over the years, this simple and inexpensive snack has evolved to keep up with the times.
If you know where to look, you can actually get putu piring made with chocolate chips and durian flavored rice flour, and then some with blueberry and chocolate fillings. For those of you going to Nilai soon, Putu Piring Abah is the go-to stall for delicious putu piring.
Besides the traditional Gula Melaka (5pcs @ RM3), Putu Piring Abah also has blueberry + chocolate, kaya, kelapa manis and chocolate flavored putu piring. Those with special fillings are slightly more expensive by only 20 cents a piece.
So a set of 5 is only RM4 which I feel is an apt price to pay for. You can also opt for a mixed set that allows you to try different 3 different flavors. Shown above is their blueberry + chocolate flavored putu piring, it is THE absolute must-try here.
If you think about it, putu piring should taste good with any filling as long as it’s sweet or savory. It’s only a matter of whether the trader is willing to innovate and try new things. If they are successful, the business can really take off.
The best example is Putu Piring Generasi Ketiga who we helped to promote via MyMakanTV. Now, they are perhaps the busiest putu piring stall in the entire country!
Since we traveled all the way here from KL, you bet we tried all the other flavors as well. Our second favorite was the chocolate one which had a gooey center, followed by kelapa manis that had a nice balance of sweet and savory. Kaya was good but it tasted as expected, so not much surprise there.
All in all, Putu Piring Abah makes delicious putu piring and I am sure you won’t regret buying from them.
