Fancy a Thai fine dining experience? Rama V could fit the bill perfectly. Not to mention the beautiful and serene pond view that will definitely make an impression.
The extensive a la carte menu is affordable and could be considered reasonable for a restaurant of such standards. Mixed Salad with Crispy Soft Shell Crab @ RM24 is worth ordering just for the chunky and delicious soft shell crab alone.
Chor Ladda @ RM22 – flower shaped dumpling stuffed with chicken and peanut. Looks pretty and all but we felt quite let down by the chewy and simplistic sweet and nutty taste. I do however, have to admit that I ordered this from the 19 possible appetizers solely because of how it looked on the photo.
Grilled Butter Beef @ RM28 – incredibly tender with a strong spice flavor but there’s a lingering after-taste of meat tenderizer, similar to those found in Chinese beef noodles. That is the only minuscule issue I had with this dish.
Rama V’s signature Steamed White Snapper Fish in Lime Juice & Chili Sauce @ RM60 had to be the best dish we ordered that night. With such a fresh fish, the only way to do justice to it is to steam it and keep the seasoning as minimal as possible to fully appreciate the fish’s delicate flavor. It was absolutely appetizing and goes great with white rice. However, you should be aware that the spiciness level of this dish is very much toned down compared to the average Thai restaurant.
Tom Kha Seafood @ RM18 – filled with fresh prawns and slices of fish and mushrooms.
Expect the Thai-styled Chicken Satay @ RM26 made with succulent chicken thigh to have a strong lemongrass taste. The dipping peanut sauce is spicier and much less oily than the Malaysian version.
Instead of ordering off the menu, Rama V’s desserts (in fake food form) are presented on a tray for your selection. Interesting. We had the Thab Thim Krob which was just OK mainly because the shaved ice was not soft and fine enough.
Before you come, do note that a dress code applies. Luckily I was not refused service when I came in shorts and sandals, maybe I should read the term ‘fine dining’ more literally next time.

ahh. didn’t realise they hav ea dresscode. I should stop by for lunch one of these days seeing that my office is nearby :D
Didn’t knew that they have dress code as well, but my last time dining there was more than half a decade ago, so I guess there’s changes in the some of the code of conduct.
