They are neighbors, but one is a bustling major township and the other a small Malay village. I am referring to Taman Tun Dr Ismail and Kampung Sungai Penchala. Compared to TTDI, Kampung Sungai Penchala’s Bazaar Ramadan is smaller, sells similar delicacies but they are more traditional and less fancy (so no Murtabak Maggi here). Also, for some reasons you will find a lot of different chicken related foods like Ayam Golek, Sarawak-style black pepper roasted chicken, ayam panggang madu, ayam panggang percik, grilled chicken wings, chicken rice and many more.
The bazaar is very different compared to those that are located at the center of town and city. Instead of multi-storey shops, high rise buildings and fly overs, it has greenery (backed by Bukit Lanjan), village houses and mosque that give a laid back feel. Most of the patrons come on motorcycles too.
There is only one Ayam Golek stall here, also the very first stall before you enter the bazaar. While nothing fantastic about the roasted birds, the tangy dipping sauce is really good and could go well with just about anything.
Murtabak Beratur should be the most popular stall here. I guess it is obvious where they got their name from. As much as we wanted to try this, the queue is really quite long and we did not have the patience to wait for it.
Right opposite Murtabak Beratur is another popular stall selling various colorful drinks and tau fu fah.

The only satay stall around has a unique way of preparing them. The skewered meats are first coated with peanut sauce before going on the grill, so they are extra flavorful.

And some other foods on sale. On the way home we also saw Mie Cord, the restaurant that prepared the delicious Penang Char Koay Teow we had at TTDI’s Bazaar Ramadan was open for business as usual. We couldn’t resist and bought a packet as well, it was oh-so satisfying.
