Crispy Skin Roast Duck @ Restoran New I Po, Klang


When I was still working in Kota Kemuning a year back, a colleague once brought us to somewhere near GM Klang Wholesale City to have roast duck for lunch. The restaurant was New I Po and I was blew away by how delicious the roast duck was. Hence, the experience was etched on my mind ever since.

New I Po Quarter Roast Duck

Last weekend while on our way to try the famous durian cendol in Shah Alam, I decided to make a quick stop at the restaurant just to reminiscent about the taste I had.
A quarter duck is priced at RM15 and while it might sound cheaper than most places, do note that the ducks here are actually smaller too. For two people or more, I’d suggest ordering half a duck, which is also recommended by the friendly lady boss. Otherwise, you will be fighting for it.

New I Po Crispy Skin Roast Duck

Despite being not as meaty, there are two great qualities in the roast duck that I find redeeming. Firstly, the thin and crispy skin that’s actually as crispy as they advertise. Secondly, the fragrant charcoal aroma that still lingers in the meat – you will notice it immediately once you bite into the duck. And of course you can expect the duck to be fresh with firm and tender meat throughout.

New I Po Roast Duck Sauce

New I Po’s roast duck is served bare and it’s only accompanied by two sweet based sauces, one spicier than the other. Personally, I find the roast duck to be flavorful (and salty) enough as it is, while the sauces are only necessary if you’re eating rice as well.

Besides roast duck, the usual suspects like char siew, siu yuk and roast chicken are also available; albeit at limited quantity. I can’t recall how they were like, but should be good enough considering my fond memories of this place.
