Went to Savory Bistro at Mont Kiara for my birthday few weeks ago. Initially I wanted to have it in one of my favorite steakhouses in KL but too bad the weather has not been cooperative especially on Fridays, which means getting stuck in long traffic jam trying to get in and out of the city. Wouldn’t want that to be part of the celebration experience now, would I? Overall the food was satisfying with room for improvement and we enjoyed the live band.
Cream of Pumpkin @ RM13 – a delicious soup featuring scallop and garlic croutons. Thick, creamy and flavorsome.
Calamari Fritty with Dill Tartar dip @ RM18 to warm up our stomach before the mains. Fresh with a crunchy coating that does not feel greasy at all.
The chef had some issues with the quality of some cuts of meat and refused to serve them. So our choices are limited to Rib Eye or Fillet Mignon for beef. Always good to know the chef values quality over money, don’t you think? SL went for the Rib Eye medium rare @ RM52 and it was beautifully cooked with a faint whiff of thyme. The beef is not of high grade like Angus or Wagyu but still tender and juicy enough to be enjoyed.
I ordered my Filet Mignon (RM50) medium rare as well but it came slightly overcooked to a medium. As a result it was rather dry and chewy, which made this the only miss of the night.
They ran out of chocolate cake so a brownie was offered as a substitute for the dessert. It was delicious alright but the price of RM17 is just too steep for a small portion like this.
An open kitchen for those who like to watch their food being cooked.
Beer drinkers will definitely enjoy the happy hour here. Just pay RM29 for the entrance fee and the subsequent bottle of beers are RM1 each. I think that’s what I heard as told by the staff over the loud live band so don’t quote me on that.
