The first time I came to B & Best restaurant was about 6 years ago. Even though their Teochew seafood noodle and fish cakes were good, I didn’t really bothered to return. I think I was more interested in food that offers more exciting flavors back then.
Now that I am not that young anymore, I am starting to develop appreciation for lighter and finer tasting food like seafood noodle. Besides, it would be interesting to see how B & Best fare against Pong Kee and Soon Kee.
For those who haven’t been here, you should know that a bowl of seafood noodle with Long Dan (Estuary Grouper) alone would set you back at least RM40. So always clarify the price first before heeding the recommendations for their specials. You wouldn’t want to get a bill shock later. Economical choices are available, as their fish ball noodles are priced at RM6.

My preferred way of ordering is to set a ceiling price, then let them customize my noodle with the freshest seafood of the day. During our visit, the red snapper cheek was said to be excellent, so we took it.

On top of that, I also had oysters, scallops and Ming prawns. All of these cost RM40. The portion size was humongous and enough for me to share with SL. In terms of freshness of the seafood, I’d say that both Pong Kee and Seng Kee are marginally better especially their oysters. Soup wise, I think they are all tied.

If there’s anything that sets B & Best’s seafood noodle apart, it’s surely their homemade sambal belacan. It brings a bold and fiery flavor to perk up the light and mild tasting noodle.
One thing we really appreciated was that the staff offered to refill our bowl with hot soup. It was a simple yet nice gesture that you seldom see nowadays.

Ultimately, Pong Kee and Seng Kee will remain my top choices for seafood noodle simply because they are nearer. But I wouldn’t hesitate to drop by B & Best if I happen to be around the area. At night, a Chinese ‘dai chao’ takes over the premise and serve delicious dishes at affordable prices.
