Although Kepong has its share of Thai restaurants, only a handful of them serve Thai street food. Senthai & Mookata is one of them, and probably the best one too.
Senthai & Mookata is situated just next to Taifeng, and that’s how we knew about them. While waiting for our seat, we glanced through their menu and found a few interesting dishes worth trying. So, here we were.
If you are tired of the gimmicky boat noodles served in tiny portions at ridiculous prices, the Koay Teow Nam Tok @ RM12.90 ought to delight. It comes in a large portion topped with generous amount of pork slices and meatballs. A dash of pork blood is added for color, taste and more importantly – authenticity.
I think the flavor is wonderful as it is and does not require any further alteration. But you can still add a couple of condiments (sugar and variety of chilies) to adjust the flavor according to your liking.
After tasting so many sub-par Pad Thai in town, it’s good to finally find a good one that’s worth recommending. Senthai & Mookata’s Pad Thai is available with or without prawns.
Great flavor aside, what makes the Pad Thai extra memorable was the fact that it had a pronounced ‘wok hei’ too. Shown above is their Pad Thai Goong (with prawns) @ RM13.90.

The most delicious dish has got to be the Kor Moo Yang (Grilled Pork Neck with Sticky Rice) @ RM15.90. Every piece is nicely sliced for the perfect meat and fat ratio that gives a tender and juicy bite. However, the sticky rice was too dry and felt a tad hard and chewy.
For dessert we decided to try the Tub Tim Krob @ RM10 to see how it compares against the others in the same vicinity. Not bad but I’d have liked it even more if they had snuck in some jackfruit slices as well. Overall, it just lacked that sweet punch one would expect.

RM11.50 might be overkill for the Thai milk tea on Iceberg. But if you don’t mind the price, just go for it and you will definitely appreciate the thick and creamy unadulterated taste. The normal version served together with ice cubes is also available at almost half the price.

All in all, it was a satisfying meal which left us feeling as though we just had dinner at a soi stall in Bangkok. We will gladly return again (and soon!) to check out their other offerings such as Mookata and steamboat.
