T.G.I. Friday’s Grand Opening @ Menara Hap Seng, KL

Guys, do you know where is TGI Friday’s (Thank Goodness It’s Friday’s) latest outlet? Well it is located at Menara Hap Seng in Jalan P. Ramlee. This latest outlet that opened just two days ago (27 Sep) is special because among the more than 1,000 restaurants in 60 countries globally, it has an on-trend vintage look, the first in the world to be given a design uplift from the traditional American restaurant look.
I was one of the lucky people to be invited to be part of the media for the grand opening event as well as experiencing the new design concept meant for Malaysians. It was quite a happening night with food, free flow of beer and live entertainment that kept the party going.

Then guests and the media were ushered into the restaurant. As soon as you enter the restaurant you’d see a full size sculputre of Marilyn Monroe with her signature pose. Definitely something you wouldn’t see in TGI Friday’s other outlets.

Unique iconic memorabilia and vintage inspired furnishings adorn the outlet. I particularly liked how they used toy robots and polaroid cameras to create the vintage feel. The restaurant can seat 200, both indoor and outdoor. The indoor dining area includes a lounge while the outdoor setting incorporates a pation dining area, a lounge and a bar.

Datuk Azlan Hasim then gave a short but substantial speech at the TGI Friday’s bar. After that it was time for food and fun! Do note that although this particular outlet sports a new design, the menu offerings remain the same with the rest.

I wouldn’t call this Buffalo Wings since they weren’t chicken wings at all, but the taste is the same. Served with crispy celery sticks and Bleu Cheese dressing.

And the sinfully delicious Peanut Butter Pie as dessert. It really tastes like Snickers, that chocolate bar but creamier.

Kilkenny is now officially my favorite beer, so smooth, fine and highly drinkable.

Now back to the outlet. Since Malaysians are the first in the world to experience a fully customized restaurant, you’d definitely feel some, if not tiny bit of proudness when dining here. And not only you get to move and mingle around freely at the outdoor dining area, which by the way is overlooking the city and the Petronas Twin Towers, the atmosphere here is just livelier compared to the other outlets thanks to the open kitchen concept and characteristic effect lightings. DJ performance is available every Friday and Saturday.
So if you are planning for a TGI Friday’s outing next time, do consider visiting the outlet at Menara Hap Seng for a refreshing change. The parking fee is reasonable too at RM2/entry after 6pm.
