While I was still working in Cyberjaya, Tappers Café was our regular place for lunch. Besides their signature colonial dishes such as Hainanese Chicken Chop, Tappers Café’s sensibly priced menu also features a wide range of local and Western cuisine. So they are bound to have something for my multinational department.
One of the major reasons to eat at the Tappers Café at Dataran Pahlawan is because of the view. If you sat at their upper floor, you get to enjoy your meal with the A Famosa fort serving as the backdrop.
Although we have been to Melaka countless of times, we could never get bored of looking at the fort and surrounding environment – especially from this angle.
It had been a while since I visited Tappers Café so I was pleased to find there were new items being added to their already extensive menu. The Golden Salted Chicken Rice @ RM14.70 was recommended to us by the friendly manager based on the fact that it was one of the most well-received dishes.
I have to say the recommendation was spot on and it was delicious. It’s quite rare to find Chinese ‘dai chao’ dishes that taste exactly like how you would expect, moreover at a cafe.
The salted egg sauce was rich, creamy and fragrant while the chicken was both crunchy and tender. I also like that it was served with a sunny side up, just like how I would order any single rice dish.
The Chicken Parmigiana @ RM16.50 is one of my favorite things to eat here. The portion is big and I have never been let down every time I order it.
It’s basically a breaded chicken breast in tomato spaghetti sauce and topped with melted mozzarella and parmesan cheese. You can also think of it as a pizza, except that the dough has been replaced with crispy fried chicken.
We were also introduced to a new pasta dish that proved popular with the customers. The Golden Salted Egg Prawn Spaghetti @ RM16.90 is truly a delectable combination of East and West. As expected, the salted egg sauce paired perfectly with the pasta and you can taste a subtle spiciness in it too.
For those who like a hearty breakfast, Tappers Big Breakfast @ RM15.40 is a great choice. It has everything you look for yet costs less than what other cafes charge.
The platter includes chicken sausage, beef or chicken bacon, scrambled eggs, hash brown, baked beans, mixed mushrooms and buttered focaccia toast.
Drinks wise I would recommend trying their double shot coffee (Latte @ RM8.50) and signature Tappers Teh (RM4.50) for first timers. They are incredibly strong and rich and taste A LOT better than what you get at other chain kopitiam outlets. Trust me, you won’t be disappointed.
In conjunction with Dataran Pahlawan‘s Let’s Makan Campaign, you will receive a 15% discount at all Tappers Café’s outlets except those in Kuala Terengganu. http://www.tappers.com.my/outlets.html
