There are more than 300 Bak Kut Teh restaurants in Klang, but for some reason we chose to eat at Yap Eng.
Both soup and dry version of bak kut teh are offered here. Based on other customers’ feedback we saw online, Yap Eng received universal praise for their dry bak kut teh. I have to agree that it was really good and worthy of the drive. The overall flavor and spiciness were spot on and we liked that they didn’t stinge on the dried squid.
Unfortunately the soup version fell short of expectations. While it didn’t taste bad per se, it was just average for what you have come to expect from a Klang-based bak kut teh restaurant.
The soup was rich and savory with a strong herbal flavor alright, but we felt the meat was ‘old’ and tough. That said, we were satisfied with the portion size.
