For nearly half a century, the only way you could enjoy Sze Ngan Chye‘s famous salted roast duck was to takeaway from their humble stall at Petaling Street.
Since their first ever restaurant opened in Kepong, customers now have an alternative spot to purchase their roast ducks without having to go all the way into the city. Besides, the restaurant also serves rice, noodles and a couple of side dishes to make up for a proper meal.

As revealed by the writing on the poster, the proprietor Mr. Choong has retired and currently his daughter is overseeing the business.

From what we were told, the ducks are not roasted in one large batch then left to sell for the entire day. Instead, they are roasted in small batches with charcoal fire at different times of the day to ensure they taste fresh.
So maybe that’s why there were only two ducks left during our visit for dinner. Other BBQ meats available include char siew, roast pork and chicken.

A quarter of roast duck (lower portion) is priced at RM21.20, which is only marginally more expensive than what the other stalls in the area are charging. But it’s still a reasonable price to pay considering the air-conditioned setting, free WiFi and all. Nothing is too excessively expensive here.

Although the skin was not as crispy as it could be, the meat underneath was succulent, bursting with flavorful juices. It was delicious enough on its own and the excellent chili sauce was just the cherry on the top.
We were happy and satisfied with what we had and as far as roast ducks are concerned, this definitely ranks as one of the top in Kepong. We also liked that the duck was neatly chopped up. It certainly further whetted our appetite.

Minced Pork Spinach Noodle

Instead of rice, we decided to try their noodles. The Minced Pork Spinach Noodle @ RM7.30 was good; albeit slightly greasy and it could use a little more topping.

Char Siew Wantan Noodle

Char Siew Noodle @ RM6.20 on the other hand was just alright, the char siew had a peculiar texture (in a good way) and a sweet taste.
