Impressoul Gastrology is the latest restaurant and bar to open in Sunway Pyramid Hotel West. This ambient dining and drinking venue is the brainchild of the same creative team that runs Take Eat Easy bakery cafe.
This time, Korean-Japanese fusion cuisine is the center stage and the kitchen is helmed by multi-award winning chef Ken Kwanhaeng Cho and Iron Chef S.K. Choi.
Seasoned Japanese food diners will find Impressoul’s menu familiar, as it’s filled mostly with classic and contemporary choices. But there are also a number of specials and less common dishes available. We kicked off with the Spicy Crab Salad @ RM20, an effective juxtaposition of spicy and sweet flavors. Once served, it will be mixed right before your eyes.
The sushi and sashimi selection is good and offers some of the most premium cuts you could get in town including otoro and botan ebi. Pictured above: the classic Hamachi @ RM24.
Unagi Nigiri wih cheese and mayonnaise @ RM26.
For something memorable, the Sake O-Sashimi @ RM28 fits the bill. Luscious salmon slices are drizzled in Koumi sauce, lifted by a grace note of earthiness from the truffle oil. Highly recommended.
Another alternative would be the Black Angus Beef Tataki @ RM58. The meat was cooked to a perfect medium, tender on the inside while the excellent sear on the meat gave it a boost in the overall flavor. Served with wanton chip, coriander and spicy Mara sauce.
Tori Karaage @ RM20 – a faultless rendition of the dish that meets expectations. Every piece was juicy with a nice crunch, it’s quite impossible to stop at one.
Spicy Dak-Bokkeum is a best seller at Impressoul and it’s great for sharing too. Bite sized tender chicken cubes are slow cooked in a rich, cheesy and spicy sauce; best enjoyed over rice to match the intense flavor. It’s available in a daily power set lunch @ RM27, or in their ‘Meal of the Day’ promotion (served in a smaller pan @ RM18) served on Mondays.
The Gindara Saikyo Yaki @ RM78 would surely appeal to the ladies for its delicate presentation and exquisite buttery taste. Not to mention the generous serving size which justifies the price.
Great food aside, Impressoul also offers a number of unique spaces for private events and entertaining purposes. The first floor on the right is a casual lounge fitted with lazy chairs and flat screens. Anyone can come up here and there’s no minimum spending required to enjoy the lounge.
Also on the first floor but accessed via a different staircase is the spacious private party room. More interestingly, the height of the center table is adjustable so it can double up as a bar when needed.
Family get-togethers can be held in the private dining room. It’s equipped with a custom made round table which is always preferrable for Chinese family meals.
It’s Ladies Privillege Night every Monday and Thursday and the ladies get a free Guinness Frozen. During happy hour you can get 3 mugs of Tiger beer @ RM48 nett, Guiness Stout @ RM50 nett and Heineken @ RM52 nett.
This was a complimentary tasting.
